Pursuit Productions Premieres THEM at the Preston Bradley Center Tonight

Pursuit Productions, with support from the Chicago Dancemakers Forum, will present the premiere of THEM, a new work of dance-theater made in collaboration by choreographer Ahmad Simmons and director Kacie Smith. Performances will be held tonight, July 10, through July 26 at the Preston Bradley Center in Chicago's Uptown, Todays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 7pm. There is no performance scheduled for July 17.

Co-curators Stephen Burns and Augusta Read Thomas announce Ear Taxi Festival, a four day festival of new music taking place in Chicago from October 6-9, 2016. Ear Taxi Festival will be Chicago's first large-scale, nationally recognized festival of new music, with plans to present 41 world premieres, one Chicago premiere, two U.S. premieres, four sound art installations, the work of 70 Chicago-based composers, and performances by 16 Chicago-based ensembles. In total, festival performances will involve over 300 musicians.

Lyric Opera of Chicago today announced several updates to “?Memory and Reckoning,” a confluence of activities related to the Chicago premiere of Mieczys?aw Weinberg's The Passenger, on stage at Lyric February 24 through March 15. This poignant and gripping 20th-century masterpiece portrays the story of the Holocaust from the perspectives of both victim and perpetrator, and was only recently rediscovered after more than 40 years of suppression. “Memory and Reckoning” is a supplemental series of events designed to expand and amplify the themes of this powerful opera.

Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles presents Women in Music, a festive celebration featuring female composers, conductors and performers, at Preston Bradley Center (941 W. Lawrence, Chicago) on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 3 p.m. This concert, hosted by Orange Is the New Black star Lea DeLaria, will feature a special guest appearance by Chicago's own Artemis Singers, the first lesbian feminist chorus in the U.S. The Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band, under the direction of Kyle Rhoades, will perform the masterworks planned for this special event.

Registration opens today for the Chinese Fine Arts Society's annual Music Festival in Honor of Confucius Competitions. The Music Festival in Honor of Confucius introduces participants to the rich heritage of Chinese music through instrumental and vocal competitions and scholarship opportunities. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Confucius Competitions as the Chinese Fine Arts Society also celebrates its 30th anniversary. All competitions are held at the Merit School of Music, 38 S. The Chinese Fine Arts Society (CFAS), Chicago's champion for the art and culture of China led by Julie Tiao Ma, celebrates its milestone 30th Anniversary Season with a year-long series of concerts, lectures and events inspired by the world's fundamental building blocks in Forces of Nature: The Five Elements Project. Inspired by late CFAS founder Barbara Tiao, who many considered a "force of nature," The Five Elements Project is themed around the five elements found throughout Chinese art, science and philosophy: earth, fire, metal, water and wood. The Five Elements Project makes a splash with its first event, "Water," a concert featuring traditional and contemporary works by renowned Chinese composers, including a World Premiere by New York composer Huang Ruo, at the University of Chicago's Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th Street in Hyde Park, Sunday, April 27 at 3 pm.

Pegasus Players rings in the New Year with its 27th Annual Young Playwrights Festival, an annual professional production of next-generation, one-act plays written by Chicago teens. The 2014 production features three new works by emerging playwrights. Performances are at National Pastime/Preston Bradley Center, 941 W. Lawrence, 4th Floor.
