Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Sets Centennial Season

Music Director Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announce the Orchestra's celebratory Centennial 2015-2016 season, its ninth season under the direction of Maestra Alsop. Through appearances by the world's most renowned artists, premieres of several new works, Baltimore homecomings from local artists or artists who got their start on the BSO stage, exciting signature projects and strengthening of longstanding community partnerships, the BSO marks this important milestone in grand fashion.

Northern Illinois University (NIU) proudly presents The Northern Stars of Dance Concert at the Ruth Page Center for the Performing Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn St., April 10 - 12. Showcasing the talent of alumni, students and faculty from the NIU School of Theatre and Dance, the performance will center on Spent Days Out Yonder, a piece choreographed by internationally renowned choreographer Bill T. Jones. Performances take place Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 12 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for students and seniors and can be purchased through the Ruth Page Center for the Performing Arts Box Office by calling 312-337-6543. Washington National Opera Releases Schedule for 2015-16 Season

(WASHINGTON)—Washington National Opera (WNO), led by Artistic Director Francesca Zambello, today announced its 60th anniversary season, one that highlights classic, contemporary, and American works. The 2015-2016 season includes a new-to-Washington staging of Bizet's Carmen, the world premiere of a newly revised version of Appomattox by composer Philip Glass and librettist Christopher Hampton, a revival of WNO's charming holiday production of Hansel and Gretel, the company premiere of Kurt Weill's Lost in the Stars in a gripping production from Cape Town Opera, and WNO's first complete staging of Wagner's extraordinary four-part Ring Cycle, with a world-class cast under the direction of Francesca Zambello and featuring the WNO Orchestra conducted by WNO Music Director Philippe Auguin. Highlights from the 2015-2016 season will be performed by the WNO Orchestra and special guests at a free preview concert on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 6 p.m. as part of the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage.

In a career spanning more than four decades, the contemporary American choreographer Karole Armitage has been celebrated for blurring the boundaries between dance, music and art. Inspired by disparate, non-narrative sources—from 20th century physics, to 16th century Florentine fashion, to pop culture and new media—the classical dance vocabulary, in her hands, is given a needed shock to its system with speed and fractured lines, abstractions and symmetry countermanded by asymmetry.

The Old Globe is delighted to welcome one of the true geniuses of the American theatre, Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman, who makes her long-awaited San Diego directing debut with an enchanting theatrical spectacle with live music and sumptuous visuals, The White Snake, continuing the Globe's 80th Anniversary festivities as part of the Balboa Park Centennial Celebration. The Southern California Premiere of The White Snake, written and directed by Zimmerman, will run March 21 through April 26 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run March 21 through 25. Opening night is Thursday, March 26 at 8:00 p.m.
