Tori Amos Musical to Have 2012 National Theatre Premiere?

Whatsonstage.com reports that the anticipated Tori Amos/Samuel Adamson musical recently received a workshop at the National Theatre, directed by Marianne Elliott. The source material is 'The Light Princess' by George MacDonald, a fairy tale released in 1864. According to the site, 'puppetry was one of the focal points of exploration.' Puppetry is something Elliott is all too familiar with, having previously co-directed WAR HORSE at the National in 2007. Whatsonstage reports that the musical will see a world premiere at the Lyttelton Theatre in 2012.

'I murdered Mozart!' rings out across Europe from Composer Antonio Salieri on his death-bed. Salieri had been the toast of Europe. He had been a devout Catholic all his life. He made a pact with God that he would be the vessel through which God's music would spring. All was good until Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart arrives in Vienna. In horror Salieri determines that it is Mozart instead who is his God's chosen voice. Mozart's music proves it; God had broken their pact. Salieri now makes a terrible new vow: to block God on earth and teach Him a lesson, using Mozart as the means to that end.

Cirque du Soleil opened it's celebrated new production tribute to the life and music of Elvis Presley: Viva ELVIS on December 18, 2009. The show, directed by choreographer Vincent Paterson, runs at the new ARIA Resort & Casino at CityCenter in Las Vegas.
