MEN IN LA Exhibit, Featuring Work by Naotaka Hiro, Benjamin Weissman and Paul McCartney, on Exhibit at LA's The Box
by Matt Smith
- Jun 11, 2014
Dear Friends,
Three men all living and working in Los Angeles, all making obsessive amounts of drawings. In the Studio, at the mountain cabin, at the dinner table. The drawing takes over, the drawings provide space for thought, they provide inspiration for new work, they are the new work. Men in LA: Three Generations of Drawings brings together the drawings of Naotaka Hiro, Benjamin Weissman, and Paul McCarthy. Each artist has a unique vision; yet the exhibition showcases similarities, shared interest in the human form and the human psyche.

BWW Reviews: CAROLE J. BUFFORD Raises Her Cabaret Performance Bar To Star Level With 'Shades of Blue' at the Metropolitan Room
by Stephen Hanks
- May 21, 2014
I never thought that writing a rave review would be more difficult than constructing a less than positive critique, but Carole J. Bufford, damn her, is causing me creative problems. That's because for the third time in three years I'm compelled to praise this attractive powerhouse cabaret singer to the skies (you can find my two previous essays on her unassailable talent here and here) and my author's arsenal contains only so many superlatives. With yet another outstanding performance last Thursday night at the Metropolitan Room, the young woman who was named BroadwayWorld.com's 2013 Cabaret Vocalist of the Year has snatched my mental thesaurus (not to mention my online one) and trampled all over it. She's given me the writer's block blues.

AMERICAN IDOL Finale Recap: Two Heavyweights Slug it Out on Enjoyable Finale (updated w/ photos)
by Matt Tamanini
- May 21, 2014
In Caleb Johnson and Jena Irene, we have the season's only two performers that consistently gave credible, entertaining performances, and also had a professional command of the stage. As you would expect these two heavyweights delivered a knockout of a competition finale. While I always hate the recycled song choices, and don't get me started on the generally nauseating coronation songs, this was a very enjoyable way to close the competition part of the season.
