Sheik & Sater's ALICE BY HEART to Launch Theatre Aspen's New Development Series

Theatre Aspen announced the launch of a new play development series today, with the early workshopping of Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater musical Alice By Heart, based on the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Sheik and Sater are best known for their 2007 rock musical Spring Awakening which won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.
Theatre Aspen's DISCO BALL Benefit Sells Out

Theatre Aspen has announced that the annual benefit gala, to be held on March 8th at 6:30 pm at the Hotel Jerome has sold out. This year's theme is 'The Disco Ball,' and the glittery evening will feature entertainment, dinner, DJ, silent and live auctions and disco dancing.

The Drama League honored Golden Globe Nominee and Emmy® Award winner Neil Patrick Harris last night at the 30th Annual Musical Celebration of Broadway at the famed Pierre Hotel (2 East 61st Street). The evening's one-of-a-kind all-star tribute, hosted by Emmy®, Grammy, Oscar and Tony® Award winner, Whoopi Goldberg, featured dozens of celebrities from Hollywood and Broadway in a one-night-only evening of musical selections drawn from Mr. Harris' career in theater, film and television, co-directed by Tony® Award winner and Drama League Alumnus Michael Mayer with Johanna McKeon, and co-produced by Roger T. Danforth and Trevor Tamashiro.

Award-winning Theatre Aspen announced the lineup for its 31st season today. The Hurst Theatre will open with the musical comedy The Full Monty, running in repertory with the musical Little Women, and a brand new comedy by Sandy Rustin called The Cottage. Casting begins early in 2014.

Just yesterday, September 24, The Broadway League and The Coalition of Broadway Unions and Guilds (COBUG) presented the fifth annual Broadway Salutes, a celebration -- free and open to the public - which honors the countless professionals who have made Broadway great for decades. In this industry-wide event, which was held at the Times Square Visitor Center (1560 Broadway, between 46th and 47th Streets) in the heart of the theatre district, theater professionals received special recognition for having worked 25, 35, and 50 years in their respective theatrical craft. In this industry-wide celebration, theater professionals will receive special recognition for having worked 25, 35, and 50 years in their respective theatrical craft. This year's event, hosted by Emmy Award winning actress Holland Taylor (a recent Tony Award nominee for her role in Ann) and directed by Marc Bruni (Old Jews Telling Jokes), will take place in the Times Square Visitor Center (1560 Broadway), located in the heart of the theatre district on Seventh Avenue between 46th and 47th Streets. The event will begin at 3:30PM with red carpet arrivals, and the public ceremony begins at 4:00PM. Special guests and other participants will be announced shortly.

Theatre Aspen's 30th summer season begins today. The summer repertory season includes the Tony Award-winning epic LES MISERABLES, opening today, June 25th, the one-man comedy Fully Committed, opening July 6th and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, which opens July 12th. All shows run through late August.
