At the Apollo Theater in Harlem, the arrival of the holiday season is marked by 'Holidays at the Apollo,' which this year includes 'Ellington at Christmas,' a two-act offering of Ellington's 'Nutcracker Suite' and portions of his 'Sacred Music Concerts.' We're re-gifted these Ellington holiday classics in an enjoyable, if not completely flawless performance by Ellington expert David Berger and his Jazz Orchestra, featuring students from the Dance Theater of Harlem School and the Arts High School Advanced Choir of Newark, as well as solos by baritone Norm Lewis, sopranos Lizz Wright and Priscilla Baskerville, and tap virtuoso Jason Samuels Smith.

Television audiences have one more chance to celebrate with Deborah Voigt this holiday season. Tonight, Friday, December 19, the Grammy Award-winning soprano returns to the small screen when PBS/THIRTEEN broadcasts her special guest appearance in Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, recorded live in concert last season, and now also available on both CD and DVD. In the summer of 1998, as part of my high school's drama club, I made my first trip to New York City. Over the course of seven days, I saw eight musicals, both on and Off-Broadway. While I was already a devout musical theatre fan, seven of those eight solidified my love for the art form, while one left me cold, and slightly angry. That show was THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. I have spent the past 16 years saying that Andrew Lloyd Weber and Charles Hart's musical was the worst Broadway or touring show that I have ever seen. So, when it was announced that its newly reimagined staging would be the first touring production to grace Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, I was honestly hopeful that as I aged, my appreciation for the longest running show in Broadway history would have as well; and I am happy to say that it most certainly did.

The feature film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's beloved fairy tale musical INTO THE WOODS is coming to movie theaters nationwide on Christmas Day and BroadwayWorld celebrates the man behind the music and lyrics with a new series highlighting the work of the iconic composer and lyricist, finishing today with a look at his work in the 1990s and 2000s.

CBS announces the special guests that have been added to the lineup of THE THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE ON CBS, which will be broadcast live from New York City, Thursday, Nov. 27 on the CBS Television Network. The parade will be broadcast 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, live ET; 8:00-11:00 AM, live CT; 7:00-10:00 AM, live MT; 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, delayed PT.
