HBO's GAME OF THRONES Taps Indie Band 'Hold Steady' for Season 3 Song

EWonline reports that HBO's GAME OF THRONES has tapped indie rock band The Hold Steady to create a hit song for the series upcoming third season. The Brooklyn-based band will perform “The Bear and the Maiden Fair,” with lyrics by Martin and music by the show's composer Ramin Djawadi.

HBO has confirmed some of the new cast members for the third season of the hit series GAME OF THRONES, with many of the actors appearing in a video that was unveiled Friday, July 13 at Comic-Con 2012. Among the new actors is Diana Rigg who will portray Lady Olenna Tyrell

Before the second-season finale of GAME OF THRONES debuts next SUNDAY, JUNE 3 (9:00-10:05 p.m. ET/PT) on the main HBO channel, fans can catch up on the season with a marathon of the preceding nine episodes. Starting today, June 2 at 6:00 p.m. (ET/PT), the HBO Zone channel will present all nine episodes back-to-back three times, ending right before the season finale debuts on HBO.

The return of the second season of HBO's fantasy drama series GAME OF THRONES was a ratings winner for the cable network, pulling in 3.9 million viewers for its premiere episode on Sunday, April 1. The show broke its previous ratings record of 3 million viewers who tuned in to last year's Season 1 finale. The second season debut saw a 74% increase from the series premiere last year.

Following strong critical and viewer response to the series' April 17 debut, HBO has renewed GAME OF THRONES for a second season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming.
