Leigh Barrett, one of Boston's most formidable musical theater talents, makes an impressive professional directorial debut with New Repertory Theatre's CLOSER THAN EVER.

The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for Marco Ramirez's ('Orange is the New Black,' 'Sons of Anarchy') wildly theatrical new play The Royale, directed by two-time Obie Award-winning and Drama Desk Award-nominated Rachel Chavkin. Founding Artistic Director of New York's the TEAM, Chavkin most recently won accolades for Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 (The New York Times, Time Out New York, and New York Post Critics's Picks, and Top Ten of 2012 and 2013). The Royale will run October 4 to November 2 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run October 4 - 8. Opening night is Thursday, October 9 at 8:00 p.m.

"Misterman" enjoyed sold-out runs and glowing reviews from audiences and critics when it premiered at the 2011 Galway Arts Festival, followed by the New York premiere at St. Ann's Warehouse. "Misterman" is headed to Colorado with the news that Mr. Walsh's critically acclaimed hit play, will feature Olympia Dukakis voicing the role of Mammy. The play will be directed by Melissa Firlit and the role of Thomas Magill will be played by New York actor Craig MacArthur. "Misterman" opens at the Thingamajig Theatre Company's 99-seat black box on September 26th and runs through October 12th. The production will then relocate to Denver this fall before returning to New York in spring of 2015.

Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill, NY will present a reading of QUIET ELECTRICITY, a new play by Michael Raver, at their Speakeasy space on Saturday, September 13 at 7:00pm.

The Lyric Stage Company of Boston's 2014-15 Season begins September 5 with Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece SWEENEY TODD, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The musical thriller runs tonight, September 5 through October 11, 2014. The opening is set for September 7 at 3 p.m.

Boston Playwrights' Theatre (BPT) opens its 2014-15 season with Reconsidering Hanna(h) by Deirdre Girard. Running from September 25 to October 19, this new drama will be directed by Bridget Kathleen O'Leary.

The Nora Theatre Company will present Lauren Gunderson's Emilie: La Marquise du Chatelet Defends Her Life Tonight. The piece will be the Boston acting debut for Lee Mikeska Gardner in the title role. Ms. Gardner was appointed Artistic Director of The Nora Theatre Company in November 2013 following a national search. The press performance is Monday, September 8 at 7:30PM.

59E59 Theaters welcomes Contemporary American Theater Festival with the New York premiere of UNCANNY VALLEY, written Thomas Gibbons and directed by Tom Dugdale. The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theatres that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 42nd Rolling World Premiere: Robert Caisley's Lucky Me will receive four productions through the Network's Continued Life of New Plays Fund in the 2014/15 season. Lucky Me will begin its Rolling World Premiere at Core Member New Jersey Repertory Company (Long Branch, NJ, today, August 2 - 31, 2014), followed by performances at Core Member Curious Theatre (Denver, CO, dates TBA), Core Member Riverside Theatre (Iowa City, IA, January 24 -February 15, 2015), and Associate Member 6th Street Playhouse (Santa Rosa, CA January 30-February 15, 2015).

New Repertory Theatre announces the final show of the 30th Anniversary Season, the Next Rep World Premiere: SCENES FROM AN ADULTERY by Ronan Noone, June 6 through June 21, 2015 at the Boston University Theatre, Lane-Comley Studio 210. SCENES FROM AN ADULTERY is co-presented with Boston Center for American Performance (BCAP).

The National New Play Network (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, in collaboration with the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and Stanford University's National Center for New Plays, will host nearly fifty playwrights, directors and dramaturgs today, July 26 - August 3, 2014 as part of a week-long workshop for new works by MFA students from New York University-Tisch School of the Arts, Hunter College, University of California-San Diego, and the Juilliard School.
