The People Movers Hosts CRAWL 6 This Weekend

The People Movers, known for creating and producing socially, politically, and culturally relevant works, announce the sixth chapter of CRAWL, a multi-disciplinary, nomadic arts presenting series, now in its second year. On May 13 and 14, 2016, the sixth chapter of the series will take place at Livestream Public in Brooklyn at 7:30 p.m. The evening will feature performances by dancers Jordan Isadore and Chafin Seymour, and an electric soundscape by music artist Myles Avery.
Babes With Blades Theatre Company Sets 2016-17 Season

Babes With Blades Theatre Company (BWBTC) announces its 19th Season, 'Women on the Front Lines,' featuring two productions that embrace the glories and heartbreaks of battle, and explore both the personal and the larger impact of war. Opening in July, the world premiere of The Promise of a Rose Garden, by Dustin Spence, is a modern day look at female Marines attempting to pass the Infantry Officer Training Course. Then the season will continue with BWBTC's tradition of an all-female cast Shakespeare production: Henry V opens in February.

Kim Davies' STET to Open Off-Broadway at Abingdon Theatre Company in June

Abingdon Theatre Company, in association with The Muse Project, will present STET, a new play inspired by true events, written by Kim Davies and developed by Kim Davies, Jocelyn Kuritsky and Artistic Director Tony Speciale. A limited Off-Broadway engagement will begin previews on June 11, as part of Abingdon's 2015-2016 Season, with an official press opening scheduled for June 23. Tickets are now on sale through July 3. Tony Speciale is set to direct the world-premiere production, which marks his inaugural programming as Artistic Director.

Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones, John Wick, Equus), Katie Brayben (Beautiful - The Carole King Musical, King Charles III, American Psycho) and Annapurna Sriram (Billions, South of Hell) join the previously announced internationally acclaimed actors Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice) and Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory) to complete the cast of the European premiere of The New Group's critically acclaimed Off-Broadway production, The Spoils. This razor-sharp new comedy, written by and starring Jesse Eisenberg, will transfer for a strictly limited season at London's Trafalgar Studios, from 27 May to 13 August, with press night on 2 June.
2014-15 NYC Theatre Season Hits Record High in Diversity Per AAPAC's Report

In the 2014-15 season, the NYC theatre industry hit a record high in the 9 years AAPAC has data collected. For the first time, 30% of all available roles went to actors of color, a jump from 24% the previous year. After three years in a row of exceeding the nine-year average of 23%, it seems safe to say that there is a definite upward trend in the casting of actors of color.

1972: Dr. John Fryer dons an oversize tuxedo and rubber joke shop mask to become Dr. Henry Anonymous and confront the American Psychiatric Association with these words: 'I am a homosexual, I am a psychiatrist.' The latest work by renowned theatre artist Ain Gordon, 217 Boxes of Dr. Henry Anonymous, is a new play drawn from the 217 boxes of archive materials from national LGBT activist of Dr. John Fryer discovered by Ain Gordon during his two-year embedded artist status at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP). This new work is set to run, May 5-7, at the Painted Bride Arts Center, 230 Vine Street. All performances are at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $20.
