STAGE TUBE: Wanda Sykes Talks 'Hannigan' in Philadelphia!

As BroadwayWorld reported back in August, comedian Wanda Sykes will be leading the Media Theatre's production of ANNIE as 'Miss Hannigan' - the iconic child-hating orphanage director with an affinity for alcoholic beverages - this holiday season. Sykes will open the production on November 23 and close the production on January 16, 2011 following a Christmas absence. The production will be directed by Media Artistic Director Jesse Cline and musical directed by Tom Fosnocht. Rehearsals began November 8, 2011.

Theatre Works' Radio Theatre Series will air The Prisoner of Second Avenue by Neil Simon, starring Richard Dreyfuss, Marsha Mason, Annie Abbott, Lorin Dreyfuss, Betty Garrett and Sharon Madden. The broadcast can be heard locally in Southern California on Saturday from 10 pm to midnight on 89.3 KPCC, and can also be streamed on demand at http://www.latw.org/.

This holiday season, Mannheim Steamroller will celebrate a quarter-century of being America's favorite Christmas music artist with a 25th Christmas Anniversary Tour of their spectacular and beloved holiday show. BWW Review: Avalon Theatre Company Presents THE GOOD DOCTOR

Neil Simon's THE GOOD DOCTOR finds the playwright mining the short stories of Anton Chekhov for material, and this comedy with music, is a decidedly mixed bag, occasionally producing laughs, but not nearly in the abundance we've come to expect. It's an odd marriage of styles, and more often than not, the humor seems strained or overly familiar. Avalon Theatre Company opens their 2010-2011 season with a fairly solid production of this minor work from the Simon canon, although it could benefit greatly from a bit of tightening.
