Nominations for the 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards were announced tonight by The Recording Academy and reflected one of the most diverse years for the best and brightest in music.

A total of 10 music teachers from ten cities across eight states have been announced as finalists for the first annual Music Educator Award presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation. In total, more than 30,000 initial nominations were submitted from all 50 states.

British classical composer John Tavener died peacefully yesterday at his home. He was 69 years old. The musician is described as 'the single most popular British classical composer of the late 20th and 21st centuries.'
