Paramount Pictures, with the Curran theater and the San Francisco Film Society, will present the San Francisco Premiere of the film Fences, which has been adapted into a motion picture by the late August Wilson. The event, 30 years after the play first played at the Curran theater ahead of its Broadway premiere, will reopen the Curran following a just-completed, extensive renovation.

August Wilson's MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM will be the next project that actor and director Denzel Washington will adapt for the screen. The play, which recently ran at theUK's National Theatre, will be part of Washington's previously announced plan to bring all 10 of the playwright's works to the screen over the next ten years.

The celebrated stars and director of WGN America's Underground Railroad thriller 'Underground,' one of the most highly acclaimed television series of the year, will take center stage at the 2016 Essence Festival, the nation's premier showcase for African American music and culture. Aldis Hodge (Noah), Alano Miller (Cato), and Amirah Vann (Ernestine), with noted director and executive producer Anthony Hemingway, will discuss the phenomenon the record-breaking series 'Underground' has become, during a not-to-be missed panel discussion at the Ernest N.
