Sundance Institute announced today the films selected for the U.S. and World Cinema Dramatic and Documentary Competitions and the out-of-competition NEXT <=> section of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, January 22 to February 1 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. The Festival is the centerpiece of the year-round public programs for the Institute, which also hosts 24 residency labs and grants more than $2.5 million to independent artists each year.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Andrew Lloyd Webber says there's a 'strong possibility' that his next musical, School of Rock, will premiere on Broadway instead of the West End due to more relaxed laws on child performers in the United States. The West End requires the hiring of 3-4 child actors for one role, which makes casting difficult.

The third annual Celebrate Sundance Institute Los Angeles Benefit, celebrating artistry and visionary leadership in independent film. This year, the benefit will honor the life and work of beloved journalist and film critic Roger Ebert with the Vanguard Leadership Award in Memoriam, in recognition of his advocacy of independent cinema. The award will be presented by Sundance Institute President and Founder Robert Redford and accepted by Ebert's wife, Chaz Ebert. Kerry Washington will present Ryan Coogler with the Vanguard Award, Presented by Tiffany & Co. Coogler is a director and alum of the Sundance Institute Feature Film Program. His first feature film, Fruitvale Station, was selected for Sundance Institute's Screenwriters Lab and went on to win both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

HBO Cancels ENLIGHTENED

After two low-rated seasons, HBO is no longer feeling ENLIGHTENED. The network has opted out of renewing the series for a third season, despite the fact that its star, Laura Dern, won a Golden Globe for her performance during its inaugural outing.
