The Tony Award-winning musical 'The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess' made its triumphant debut at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre, opening last night, April 23 at 8 p.m. at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre. San Francisco's 42nd Street Moon raised the roof - and significant funds - with the help of celebrity guest star, Megan Hilty, at WHAT WE DID FOR LOVE, the theatre company's gala fundraising evening held February 27 at Bimbo's 365 Club in San Francisco. A sold-out crowd of 270 guests, many of whom adopted the suggested theme attire of 'Anything Goes with a dash of red,' were thrilled by the sultry and Smash-ing talents of Broadway and television star Megan Hilty, who with help from her musical director Bryan Perry, performed a crowd-pleasing array of hits from her already impressive career. According to The New York Times' Patrick Healy, the trustees of George and Ira Gershwin's estates are developing a musical adaptation of An American in Paris by Craig Lucas, to be directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon.

Last night, April 28, at the Four Seasons San Francisco, more than 380 people celebrated Tony Award-winning Berkeley Repertory Theatre with actor Rita Moreno, who hosted an evening for theatre lovers, gourmands, and philanthropists. Moreno entertained the crowd with a series of songs and jokes. A gala held each year to benefit Berkeley Rep, ONSTAGE raised more than $510,000 to support the nonprofit's artistic efforts and its education and outreach programs for the local community.

Producers of The Gershwins' PORGY AND BESS just announced that thanks to a generous donation from the families of George and Ira Gershwin, 2,250 high school students from New York City Public Schools will be coming to see the show on Wednesday matinees from March through May. The event kicked off yesterday, March 13, with a special event that involved both cast members and teachers and city officials.
