The concept of nightclub musicals being performed as if in the Cabaret, or perhaps La Cage if you prefer, has been turned on its rear. 'The Fartiste,' a clever new musical directed by John Gould Rubin, transforms the entire downstairs area of Sofia's into the infamous Moulin Rouge, complete with can-can girls and a riotous emcee. The talented 6-person cast filled the entire space throughout the 90 minute show fully immersing the audience into the world of Joseph Pujol.

Lark Play Dev Center Announces U.S./México Playwright Exchange Program

The Lark Play Development Center in collaboration with Mexico's National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA) is pleased to announce the 2011 U.S./México Playwright Exchange Program. For the sixth year the Lark will host playwrights from México and pair them with U.S. playwrights, actors, and directors for a ten day cultural exploration which establishes ongoing channels of communication between artists in both countries. This year's partners include Borderlands Theater (Arizona), Repertorio Español (New York), and the Mexican Cultural Institute.

Last night in an East Side Penthouse overlooking the congestion at the United Nations Bick Goss was honored by the organization he founded in 1999. Mr. Goss began his career as a Bob Fosse dancer (original companies of Little Me, Sweet Charity, Dancin' and Chicago). In his role as director-choreographer-producer he has worked with Billy Crystal, Harold Prince, Gwen Verdon and with many performers who were present and performed at the festive celebration in the home of Mary Ellen Ashley & Cyrus Rubin.
