Disney's Aladdin, the new musical comedy based on the Academy Award-winning animated film, opened to critical acclaim on March 20th, 2014 at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre and has received 2014 Best Musical nominations from the Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Awards. Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award winner Whoopi Goldberg attended last night's performance of Broadway's new smash musical comedy Aladdin at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Following the performance, Goldberg went backstage to visit with Tony nominee James Monroe Iglehart (Genie), who was near tears at meeting one of his idols, and the cast. She lavished praise on his performance, calling it, 'the meaning of 'sensational!' Check out a look back at her visit below!

Broadway stars John Cudia ('Phantom of the Opera,' 'Les Miserables'), Michael James Scott ('Book of Mormon,' Disney's 'Aladdin'), Kathy Voytko ('Nine,' 'Oklahoma!'), Raymond Jaramillo McLeod ('Jekyll and Hyde'), and Q. Smith (Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's 'Mary Poppins') banded together, alongside Broadway's veteran musicians Charles and Annbrit duChateau ('Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark,' Disney's 'Aladdin,' respectively), Dave Phillips ('Book of Mormon'), and Charles Descarfino ('Elf,' 'Porgy and Bess'), to raise funds for the Young At Arts' scholarship program Monday, April 28, at Christ Church Bronxville.

Broadway music directors Annbritt duChateau (Disney's 'Aladdin') and Charles duChateau ('Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark'), alongside a group of their 'Broadway friends,' are donating their time and talent for the 9th annual Young at Arts benefit at the Christ Church Bronxville (17 Sagamore Road) on Monday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m.

The Broadway cast of Aladdin is set to make an appearance on 'The View' on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. The cast will perform 'Prince Ali' live from Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre. Tune in to ABC at 11am EST.

The Gypsy Robe began in 1950, when Bill Bradley, in the chorus of GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, borrowed a dressing gown from Chorus member Florence Baum and sent it to a friend in CALL ME MADAM on opening night Oct 12, 1950 saying it was worn by all the Ziegfeld beauties and would 'bless' the show. A cabbage rose from Ethel Merman's gown was added and the robe was passed along to next Broadway musical on opening night. The tradition evolved so that the robe is now presented to the 'gypsy' who has performed the most Broadway musicals on a chorus contract. Along the way, the robe is decorated, painted, patched, stitched, and signed by everyone in the show, becoming a fanciful patchwork for an entire Broadway season.
