In certain cities, the films will be screened in theaters starting in late September and, in select locations, will include live discussions following the screenings.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will join Catherine Zeta-Jones to present the 2012 Mayor's Awards for Arts and Culture to six individuals and organizations in celebration of their outstanding contributions to New York City's cultural life. The Mayor will also present the NYC Handel Medallion, New York City's highest award for achievement in the arts, to Harvey Lichtenstein. The event, to be held at New York City Center, will feature live performances by leading performing arts organizations, and appearances by special guest artists.

The stars came out on Thursday as The Public Theater celebrated the completion of the $40 million revitalization of its downtown home at Astor Place with a special rededication ceremony. The event featured the "throwing out of the first lines" of Shakespeare by city officials and artists with ties to The Public, followed by a special performance from the cast of Hair, which had its world premiere at The Public when it opened in 1967.
