Urban Research Theater presents PLAY/WAR 7/15-8/14

URBAN RESEARCH THEATER presents the world premiere of PLAY/WAR, an explosive journey through intimacy, violence, and liberation. The performance explores the intermingling of play and war through an encounter between two nameless men, one in army camouflage and the other wearing a business suit. Over the course of the hour-long performance, the relationship of these two men passes through aggressive confrontation, childhood innocence, erotic potential, and more. PLAY/WAR explores contemporary masculinity through original dialogue, choreography, and songs ranging in style from traditional folk and sacred music to hip-hop.

La MaMa Moves!, which is dancing into its fifth year has a dance card that is the envy of the ball. It's filled with names such as Sara Rudner, Rashaun Mitchell, John Kelly, Ellen Fisher, Judith Sanchez Ruiz, John Scott, Jennifer Monson, and Doug Elkins--in all, over 75 different performers, many of whom are appearing at La MaMa for the first time, and some of whom will be crossing the pond just for a chance to dance on one of its venerable stages. Dedicated to the 90TH birthday year of Ellen Stewart, the founder and artistic director of La MaMa, the 2010 festival extends from June 4-20.

In May REDCAT culminates its 2009-2010 Sharon Disney Lund Dance Series with the Los Angeles premiere of There Is An Elephant In This Dance. After well received performances in New York and Washington DC, Los Angeles dance artist Lionel Popkin brings his latest work to REDCAT, featuring the original ensemble of Carolyn Hall, Ishmael Houston-Jones, Peggy Piacenza, Popkin, and a trio of musicians including composer Robert Een. Performances of There Is An Elephant In This Dance will take place at the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater on Thursday, May 20, 2010 and run through Sunday, May 23, 2010.

Young People's Chorus of NYC Expands Radio Radiance Program Across the Country

In participation with youth choruses, schools, and radio stations across the country, the Young People's Chorus of New York City and its Artistic Director/Founder Francisco J. Núñez are expanding their Radio RadianceTM radio/internet project with performances and radio broadcasts by six U.S. youth choruses, who will perform new music compositions commissioned by the YPC for Radio RadianceTM.
