On Saturday, February 1 (2 - 11 pm), Symphony Space is proud to present The Music of Now Marathon: Rapid Ear Movement (REM), centering on the rich theme of sleep and dreams. Now in its fifth year, The Music of Now Marathon brings together a characteristically diverse group of artists, headlined by Meredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble. The Music of Now Marathon kicks off Symphony Space's two-month The Music of Now Series, which continues with seven additional concerts through March 27.

The Rachel Rosenthal Company (RRC) presents Instant Fairy Tales, a brand new quarterly series of original fairy tales for the 21st century at Espace DbD in Los Angeles. Instant Fairy Tales: The Longest Winter, the series' inaugural offering, which features an allegorical tale about learning to care for the environment, will be held on Saturday, January 25 and Sunday, January 26, 2014.

San Francisco, CA, December 20, 2013 – The five-time Grammy Award-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus--Lisa Bielawa, Artistic Director and Valérie Sainte-Agathe, Music Director and Principal Conductor—continues its 35th anniversary season with a fully staged production of Benjamin Britten's 1957 opera Noye's Fludde, based on the biblical deluge story, in one performance only, Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 8 pm at Temple Emanu-El in San Francisco. Conducted by Ms. Sainte-Agathe, the cast will feature guest artists Carey Perloff as The Voice of God, bass-baritone Joe Chappell as Noah, mezzo-soprano Silvie Jensen as Mrs. Noah and other soloist roles performed by members of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, to be announced. The production will be staged by Ariel Craft and will feature original art, costumes and set pieces created by members of San Francisco's acclaimed Creativity Explored, supported by a grant from the Creative Work Fund. The Bang on a Can All-Stars, known for combining "the power and punch of a rock band with the precision and clarity of a chamber ensemble" (New York Times), will give a Carnegie Hall Family Concert on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 1pm at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall, complementing Bang on a Can co-founder David Lang's season-long curation as the holder of the 2013-2014 Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair at Carnegie Hall. Lang will host the program, which includes Tan Dun's Concerto for Six (2000), Don Byron's Eugene with video of American TV iconoclast Ernie Kovacs (2000), and selections from David Lang's Cheating, Lying, Stealing (1995). Before the concert at 12pm, Bang on a Can's social engagement wing Found Sound Nation will host its mobile studio, equipped for concert goers to spontaneously create and record original music, in the Parterre Lobby of Zankel Hall.

Rachel Rosenthal Company's Instant Fairy Tales, the latest offering in Rachel Rosenthal's remarkable career, is a brand new quarterly series of original fairy tales for the 21st century. Instant Fairy Tales: The Longest Winter, the series' inaugural offering on January 25th and 26th at Espace DbD in Los Angeles, features an allegorical tale about learning to care for the environment. Nico Muhly's opera Two Boys has its North American premiere at the Met tiday, October 21, in a production conducted by David Robertson and directed by Bartlett Sher. The two-act opera, which features a libretto by award-winning playwright Craig Lucas, is loosely based on true events and follows a lonely detective whose investigation of a seemingly simple crime draws her into a complex web of online intrigue. Alice Coote sings the role of Detective Inspector Anne Strawson and Paul Appleby sings Brian, the 16-year-old boy at the center of her investigations. Sher's staging, a co-production with English National Opera, premiered in London in 2011.
