Music and media executive and philanthropist David Geffen has given a $100 million gift to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts to lead the complete transformation of its largest concert hall, it was announced today by Katherine Farley, Chair of Lincoln Center. The renowned performing arts building will be renamed David Geffen Hall in September 2015 at the start of the New York Philharmonic's 2015-2016 season. (more...)

In June 2015 the New York Philharmonic will mark the 50th anniversary of its historic Concerts in the Parks, the iconic series of free outdoor performances that has been enjoyed by more than 14 million concertgoers since it was introduced in August 1965. The centerpiece of the Philharmonic's celebration will be five free performances throughout the boroughs of New York City, June 17-23, 2015; this will be complemented by a variety of activities, ranging from performances to crowdsourcing memories of parks concerts, and other online and educational projects. Oscar S. Schafer was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Philharmonic- Symphony Society of New York, Inc., today at a meeting of the organization's Board of Directors. He will hold the title of Chairman Designate until he assumes the Chairmanship in early 2015 as part of a transition, succeeding Gary W. Parr, who has held the post since September 2009. As Chairman, Mr. Schafer - who has been a member of the Philharmonic's Board of Directors since 2007 - will serve as the Society's chief volunteer officer. The University Musical Society of the University of Michigan and the New York Philharmonic have announced an ambitious five-year residency partnership, beginning with concerts and activities in October 2015. The partnership is the centerpiece of a larger program bringing three different orchestras to Ann Arbor's Hill Auditorium each season. Each residency will include multi-performance residencies, master classes and workshops for University of Michigan students, and activities for the regional community. (more...)

The New York Philharmonic has established an International Advisory Board (IAB) to develop relationships beyond the United States in order to support the Philharmonic's activities abroad, including regular Philharmonic residencies, educational and entrepreneurial projects, and the launch of the newly formed New York Philharmonic Global Academy. The International Advisory Board will serve as an international network of advocates and ambassadors who will connect with individuals and institutions in their home cities and countries to cultivate the Philharmonic's long-term reach and influence worldwide. The New York Philharmonic and the Music Academy of the West have entered into a four-year partnership that will create unique and intensive opportunities for selected Music Academy Fellows to train with New York Philharmonic musicians and Music Director Alan Gilbert in Santa Barbara and New York. Alan Gilbert, the New York Philharmonic, its Assistant Conductors, and musicians will have a presence at the Music Academy Summer Festival for training and performances each summer for four years beginning in 2014, culminating in a joint concert with the New York Philharmonic and Academy Festival Orchestra celebrating the Music Academy's 70th anniversary in 2017.
