Last night, April 8th, producer Marty Richards' feast of friends and loved ones gathered in celebration of his extremely accomplished life at The Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street) where they were entertained by a star-studded retrospective of show-stopping numbers from Mr. Richards' acclaimed Broadway musicals including Chicago, On The Twentieth Century, The Life, Grand Hotel, Sweeney Todd, La Cage Aux Folles, Sweet Smell Of Success, The Will Rogers Follies and Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life. As we approach the end of 2012 Broadway Dance World would like to pay tribute to those who passed away this year. Besides dancers they were teachers, musicians, scene designers, composers, administrators, writers, producers, scene designers and board members. Some were very prominent, others had fleeting careers. It does not make a difference. They gave of themselves and for that alone we owe them our gratitude.

The Broadway community mourns the loss of celebrated producer Martin Richards, who passed away yesterday at age 80. The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in his memory tonight, Tuesday, November 27th, at exactly 7:00 p.m. for one minute. Just yesterday, Broadway lost producer Martin Richards to cancer. He was 80 years old. Long-time friend and Broadway legend Chita Rivera just released the following statement on his passing:

The Broadway community mourns the loss of celebrated producer Martin Richards, who passed away yesterday at age 80. The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in his memory tonight, Tuesday, November 27th, at exactly 7:00 p.m. for one minute.

David Hutchinson and Phillip Rowntree for Sell a Door Theatre Company present PETER, a new play by Stacy Sobieski. Hutchinson and Rowntree announced the cast for the production. PETER opens at the LOST Theatre tonight, 23rd October and runs until the 10th November 2012.

The World Premiere with Lillias White in Big Maybelle: Soul of the Blues had its opening night last Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, NY. Plus, on August 10th, Barry Manilow and Lorna Luft came to see the preview performance. Check out photos from both nights below!

Bay Street Theatre, Martin Richards and The Gilead Company present the World Premiere musical BIG MAYBELLE: SOUL OF THE BLUES with Tony Award-winner Lillias White starring as legendary blues singer Maybelle Smith; written and directed by Paul Levine. Michael Mitchell is the Musical Director; Orchestrations are by Musical Supervisor Kenny Seymour. The show runs tomorrow, August 7 through Sunday, September 2.
