Previews begin tomorrow night, Saturday, March 8, for the return to Broadway of Tony Award-winner and two-time Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington, starring as Walter Lee Younger in Lorraine Hansberry's A RAISIN IN THE SUN. This new production begins previews nearly 55 years to the day that A RAISIN IN THE SUN had its Broadway premiere (March 11, 1959) at the same theatre, the Ethel Barrymore Theatre (243 West 47th Street). A RAISIN IN THE SUN Broadway Revival with Denzel Washington Begins Previews Tomorrow

Previews begin tomorrow night, Saturday, March 8, at 8pm for the return to Broadway of Tony Award-winner and two-time Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington starring as Walter Lee Younger in Lorraine Hansberry's A RAISIN IN THE SUN. This new production begins previews nearly 55 years to the day that A RAISIN IN THE SUN had its Broadway premiere (March 11, 1959) at the same theatre, the Ethel Barrymore Theatre (243 West 47th Street). Opening night for A RAISIN IN THE SUN is Thursday, April 3 at 6:45pm. The 14-week limited engagement runs through Sunday, June 15.

Handel and Haydn Society Announces Bicentennial 2014-15 Season

The Handel and Haydn Society (H+H) and Artistic Director Harry Christophers have announced H+H's 2014-2015 Season-its 200th-featuring the Period Instrument Orchestra and Chorus performing works from the Baroque and Classical eras. Highlights include a collection of some of the greatest oratorios ever written, stellar guest artists, and two brilliant showcases for H+H Concertmaster Aisslinn Nosky. The season opens with a concert that commemorates H+H's first public program at Boston's King's Chapel on December 25, 1815.

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that acclaimed actress Diahann Carroll has withdrawn from the upcoming Broadway revival of Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun, directed by Kenny Leon, and also starring Denzel Washington. LaTanya Richardson Jackson will assume the role of Lena Younger in the production, currently in rehearsals.

Alex Jennings to Replace Douglas Hodge as 'Willy Wonka' in CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, Beg. May 19

The West End is getting a new Willy Wonka. Taking over for Olivier and Tony Award-winning actor Douglas Hodge in Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be fellow Olivier-winner Alex Jennings, according to the Daily Mail. Directed by Sam Mendes, the production opened at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on 25 June 2013 and recently extended through May 20, 2015. Hodge's last performance is set for May 17, with Jennings taking over May 19, 2014.

MAMMA MIA! Extends Summer Run in Blackpool Through 14 Sept

The producers of the MAMMA MIA! International Tour have announced extra dates at the Blackpool Opera House this summer. The exclusive UK Summer Season was originally due to run from 20 June to 31 August, but, due to a huge demand for tickets, the season has now been extended until 14 September 2014. Blackpool will be the only UK venue outside of London to host the worldwide hit musical this year.

Making its triumphant return to the Las Vegas Strip, Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus' global smash-hit musical MAMMA MIA! begins performances May 8 at the all-new Tropicana Theater inside The New Tropicana resort in Las Vegas. Tickets range from $49 to $135 plus applicable taxes and fees and will go on sale today, Feb. 5 at noon. Special hotel packages will also be available for a two- to three-night stay at The New Tropicana Las Vegas and two MAMMA MIA! show tickets with orchestra or mezzanine seating.
