The New York Philharmonic will present Beloved Friend - Tchaikovsky and His World: A Philharmonic Festival, January 24-February 11, 2017, featuring Russian-born Semyon Bychkov conducting works by Tchaikovsky as well as composers he was influenced by and whom he influenced, with piano soloists Yefim Bronfman and Kirill Gerstein.

Mannes School of Music presents two performances of Kaija Saariaho's cornerstone oratorio La Passion de Simone. This "musical path in 15 stations" is a major work crafted by composer Kaija Saariaho and writer Amin Maalouf, and is a contemporary Passion play on the 'luminous trajectory' of philosopher and activist Simone Weil, who devoted her life to the oppressed and met an untimely death in 1943.

WQXR's online new-music station Q2 Music will broadcast the 2016 NJSO Edward T. Cone Composition Institute concert, "Scores: New Orchestral Works," on Tuesday, October 18, at 9 pm. The program-a live NJSO performance under the baton of David Robertson, recorded on July 16 at the Richardson Auditorium in Princeton-features new works by the four composers of the 2016 NJSO Edward T. Cone Composition Institute, as well as a work from Institute Director Steven Mackey.The broadcast, which will include interviews with the Institute composers, will become available for on-demand listening in the archives at www.q2music.org.

Ten outstanding Music Academy of the West musicians have been selected to travel to New York as Zarin Mehta Fellows in January 2017 to participate in the third year of the New York Philharmonic Global Academy Fellowship Program, which offers opportunities to train and play with Philharmonic musicians, representing an innovative approach to training the next generation of world-class musicians for successful careers.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic on the CALIFORNIA 2016 tour, this week, May 3-7, 2016. The tour will feature four orchestral concerts with appearances in Costa Mesa, San Diego, and San Francisco.
