MCC Theater welcomes film and TV star Douglas Smith, Pico Alexander, Lilly Englert, Lortel Award winner Annie Funke, Five-time Obie winner David Greenspan, Colby Minifie, Will Pullen, and Noah Robbins, to star in the New York premiere of Punk Rock, a new play by Simon Stephens and directed by Trip Cullman. Performances for Punk Rock begin at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) tonight, October 29, 2014. An official opening is set for November 17, 2014 and it is currently scheduled through December 7, 2014.

Edward Herrmann and Helen Cespedes Set for Westport Country Playhouse's Reading of TRYING

Tony Award nominee Edward Herrmann and Broadway actress Helen Cespedes will be in Westport Country Playhouse's Script in Hand playreading of the humorous and stirring historically based drama, "Trying" by Joanna McClelland Glass, on Monday, November 10, at 7 p.m. Director is Anne Keefe, Playhouse associate artist and curator of the playreading series. A Contemporary Theatre Board President Colin Chapman announces that Artistic Director Kurt Beattie will retire at the end of ACT's 2015 50th Anniversary Season and will be succeeded by John Langs, a nationally recognized theatre artist who has served as ACT's Associate Artistic Director since 2013. Beattie, ACT's Artistic Director since 2003, will assume the role of Artistic Director Emeritus upon his retirement, stewarding long-term projects already in development as well as acting and directing in upcoming seasons.

One of the most exciting and promising new musicals to come out of New York in the last few years for me has to be 'Dogfight'. This adaptation of the little known film from up and coming composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and writer Peter Duchan showed off that musical theater still has quite a vibrant heartbeat. So when I heard that ArtsWest was mounting this recent Lucille Lortel Award winner I was quite excited. And while there are a few muddled choices in the current production, the show elicits tons of heart and some truly touching moments especially from Seattle newbie Devon Busswood, but we'll get to more on her in a minute.

Pasadena Playhouse Adds South Coast Repertory's THE WHIPPING MAN to 2014-15 Season

The Pasadena Playhouse announced that they will present Matthew Lopez's multi-award winning play THE WHIPPING MAN, which will replace the previously announced production of William Gibson's TWO FOR THE SEESAW as the fourth production of the 2014-2015 season. THE WHIPPING MAN is produced in association with South Coast Repertory, where the show will play January 4-25, 2015, and then transfer to The Pasadena Playhouse February 3 - March 1, 2015 with a press opening on February 4.
