Michael Mayer's 2013 production of Verdi's Rigoletto, set in a 1960s Las Vegas casino, returns to the Met January 20. Italian conductor Pier Giorgio Morandi makes his company debut leading Željko Lu?i? in the title role opposite Olga Peretyatko as Gilda and Stephen Costello as the Duke.
TheatreWorks Brings International Comic Drama CALLIGRAPHY to Palo Alto

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 2016/2017 season with the Regional Premiere of Velina Hasu Houston's international comic drama, Calligraphy. Two continents, two cultures, two estranged sisters, and two cousins determined to bridge the gap between them, are all boldly calligraphed in this free-wheeling work set in Los Angeles and Tokyo, past and present. East and West collide as Japanese free-spirit Sayuri and biracial American Hiromi care for their feuding mothers, whom they gamely hope to reunite before it is too late. Directed by TheatreWorks Associate Artistic Director Leslie Martinson, Calligraphy will be presented by TheatreWorks Silicon Valley March 8-April 2 at Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. Maestro Walter Huff has announced that, after decades of service to The Atlanta Opera, he will be leaving his position as Chorus Master to focus on his duties at Indiana University. Mo. Huff will start his tenure process in Indiana this coming April. His last day with the Atlanta Opera will be January 1.

Long Beach Opera (LBO) opens its 2017 season on January 22 and 28, 2017 with Henry Purcell's 1692 The Fairy Queen, a re-telling of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Beginning this Friday, San Francisco Opera Resident Conductor Jordi Bernacer will take the podium to lead four programs over a span of seven days. Bernacer, who made his Company conducting debut with a performance of Bizet's Carmen last summer, will conduct the final fall season performances of Puccini's Madama Butterfly (December 4) and Verdi's Aida (December 6) at the War Memorial Opera House, a concert of opera scenes and arias showcasing the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows at Herbst Theatre (December 2), and a concert featuring the string section of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra (December 8) in the intimate Dianne and Tad Taube Atrium Theater at the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera.

Fresh off her debut at London's Royal Opera House and just before her Met debut, Daniela Mack joins Florida Grand Opera's (FGO) cast of George's Bizet's Carmen. Ms. Mack will perform the title role from December 1 through December 3, 2016 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
