Producers Theresa Wozunk (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess) and Timothy J. Harper announced today that 14 year-old actress, Abigail Shapiro (How the Grinch Stole Christmas) will play the title role in Liberty: A Monumental New Musical. Directed by Evan Pappas, the new musical will play a limited seven-week engagement at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place) Tuesday, October 14 through Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Tickets are now on sale.

In the 1970s, the sexual revolution had finally given women the freedom to fully explore their natures. How women of various ages reconciled this freedom with their personal ethics is the subject of Dana Leslie Goldstein's newest play, 'Daughters of the Sexual Revolution,' which will be presented today, September 18 to October 11 by the WorkShop Theater Company, 312 West 36th Street. Susanna Frazer directs.

On Her Shoulders will present a FREE staged reading of three short plays by women of The Provincetown Players on Wednesday, May 21: The Widow's View by Alice Rostetter (1919), The Rescue by Rita Creighton Smith (1918) and Aria da Capo by Edna St. Vincent Millay (1919.) Elysa Marden directs; Shana Komitee is dramaturg. Doors open at 6:30pm. The Play in Context, which situates the script in its historical time and place, kicks off the evening at 6:45pm. THE GONG SHOW LIVE opened in New York at B.B. King's Blues Club & Grill (42nd Street) on Thursday, August 12, 2010 as a tri-annual sold-out event, which garnered across-the-board rave notices that, after two years, led to the move to the brand new Cutting Room (44 East 32 Street) where it opened on Thursday, November 1, 2012 to more critical acclaim and sold-out shows; three of which Miss Gold and The Cutting Room completely filled with victims of Hurricane Sandy who were all gifted with free tickets, dinner and drinks.

IYOM, THE WINTER'S TALE and More Set for WorkShop Theater's 20th Anniversary Season

WorkShop Theater Company, and Artistic Director Scott C. Sickles, has announced its 20th season, celebrating its diverse history. WorkShop's Main Stage Season begins in September with the world premiere of Lou-Lou Igbokwe's Iyom; November marks the return of Philip Hall's highly acclaimed musical adaptation of Mark Twain's Life on the Mississippi; and the spring will bring director Ryan Lee's vision of Shakespeare's challenging classic, The Winter's Tale. In addition to developing new plays and reviving classics, WorkShop has broadened its scope in the past few years by fostering new short plays, musicals, and children's theater. This fall, WorkShop welcomes a new Managing Director, Joseph Giardina, who is also an arts education consultant for the New York City Department of Education's (NYCDOE) Office of the Arts and Special Projects.
