National Youth Orchestra of the USA to Make Its Tanglewood Debut, July 24, 2014

Today, Carnegie Hall announced that the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA), a program of Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute, will make its debut at the Tanglewood music festival, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the Berkshire hills of Massachusetts, on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. in Ozawa Hall.

In 2014 Tanglewood welcomes Andris Nelsonsfor his first festival appearances as BSO Music Director Designate. His first of four concerts with the BSO will be an all-Dvo?ak program, with the composer's symphonic poem The Noonday Witch, the Violin Concerto with soloist Anne-Sophie Mutter, and the Symphony No. 8 (7/11). For his second BSO program on July 19, Maestro Nelsons will be joined by Swedish trumpeter Hakan Hardenberger performing his compatriot Rolf Martinsson's Trumpet Concerto, on a program with music by Brahms and Tchaikovsky. The following Sunday afternoon (7/20), Maestro Nelsons will open his BSO program withChristopher Rouse's Rapture, followed by Lalo'sSymphonie espagnole, with violin soloist Joshua Bell, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5.

San Francisco Symphony Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas returns to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) stage to lead the CSO in a program of music by Stravinsky and Mahler. These performances will take place on tonight, November 21 and Saturday, November 23, both at 8 p.m.; Friday November 22 at 1:30 p.m.; and Sunday, November 24 at 3 p.m.

Alan Gilbert Leads the NY Phil in Britten's 100th Birthday Celebration Tonight

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in a celebration of the centennial of English composer, conductor, and pianist Benjamin Britten. The program will include Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, featuring tenor Paul Appleby and Philharmonic Principal Horn Philip Myers, and Britten's Spring Symphony, with soprano Kate Royal (in her Philharmonic debut), mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke (Philharmonic subscription debut), tenor Paul Appleby, New York Choral Artists directed by Joseph Flummerfelt, and Brooklyn Youth Chorus directed by Dianne Berkun-Menaker. The concerts, which include a performance on the composer's 100th birthday, November 22, will take place tonight, November 21, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 22 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 23 at 8:00 p.m.

The Museum of the City of New York just presented legendary composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim with its Louis Auchincloss Prize at a gala dinner that included a musical tribute featuring Tony Award winners and nominees. Cabaret! will took place last night, November 19th; it was a rare opportunity to recognize a living legend, and in an intimate setting. Singing Sondheim favorites were some of musical theater's most talented performers, including Gregg Edelman, Harvey Evans, Judy Kaye, Howard McGillin, Victoria Mallory, and Sarah Stiles under the direction of Michael Montel and music director Larry Yurman. Grammy-winners Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic will release their DVD and Blu-ray of Verdi's Requiem on C Major Entertainment, distributed in the USA by Naxos of America, today, November 19, 2013. In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Verdi's birth, the DVD was recorded live at the Hollywood Bowl on August 13 & 15, 2013, and features the Los Angeles Master Chorale, directed by Grant Gershon, and four world-class soloists. Theinternational release date is November 17, 2013. This is the first release from Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil recorded at the Hollywood Bowl.

Delray Beach Chorale to perform VOICES OF THE SEASON, 12/5 & 7

The Delray Beach Chorale's holiday concert, Voices of the Season, will feature the 60-voice Chorale accompanied by a professional instrumental ensemble. They will perform a selection of choruses and solos (sung by their Artist-in-Residence professionals) from Handel's Messiah, as well as a number of seasonal favorites, including "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", "Away in A Manger", "Do You Hear What I Hear", "Silent Night" (sung in German), and two Hanukah favorites, "Bashana Haba'ah" (sung in Hebrew), and "Festival of Flame". The concerts will take place at the Duncan Theatre in Lake Worth on Thursday, December 5th at 7:30 pm, and at the First Presbyterian Church in Delray Beach on Saturday, December 7th, at 3:00 pm.

A Love to Die For explores the many facets of forbidden love as only the great master composers could write. Main Street Opera presents a program of duet scenes entitled A Love to Die For on May 5, 2013. Four stories of forbidden love written by four of the most famous of composers; Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, Giuseppe Verdi's Don Carlos, Georges Bizet's Carmen, and Richard Wagner's Tristan und Isolde.
