BWW Review: Next Stage's EURYDICE Shows Sarah Ruhl in her Early Glory
by Andrew White
- Nov 1, 2016
Playwright Sarah Ruhl, confronted with her beloved father's death, must have wrestled hard with how to honor his passing, without losing herself in the process. Her play, Eurydice-in Jay D. Brock's production at Next Stop Theatre-is in some ways a witty take on the old Orpheus myth, but the wit is clearly in service of something more personal and contemporary.
BWW Review: Unseen Images' FAR AWAY Creates a Disturbing Dream World at The Venue
by Matt Tamanini
- Oct 29, 2016
From the moment you entire The Venue and see Amanda Hudson-Giese sitting in a rocking chair on stage, there is a dream-like quality to Unseen Images Theatre's production of Caryl Churchill's 2000 play, FAR AWAY. This dream-like quality continues as the play-proper begins, but it quickly spirals into a jarring nightmare, in which fragments of scenes and stories present a disjointed look at a world at war with itself. Less interested in sharing a complete narrative, FAR AWAY instead sets up brief, bizarre glimpses into a world that appears to be devolving into a dystopian hellscape.

While I am not a ROCKY HORROR expert, there didn't appear to be any horrendous missteps in the broadcast, in fact there were moments, even entire scenes, that were passably entertaining. However, on the whole, the endeavor just kept bringing to mind one simple question; 'Why?'
