PGA & Cadillac Announce Mentors for 'Make Your Mark' Film Competition

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) and Cadillac are pleased to announce the mentors for the Make Your Markcompetition– a short film competition open to producers across the country. Participating producers will compete for the opportunity of a lifetime – a portion of the winning short film and the winning producer's name will be featured in Cadillac's :30 spot that will air on ABC during the Oscars, on Sunday, February 22. The competition honors the work of renowned Academy Award® winning filmmaker Saul Zaentz (“The English Patient,” “Amadeus,” “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest”), who passed away earlier this year. Zaentz's passion continues to inspire the next generation of industry-defining producers through the Make Your Mark competition.

The Village Voice, the nation's largest alternative weekly newspaper, will hold the 59th Annual Obie Awards tonight, Monday, May 19, 2014, at Webster Hall in the East Village, 125 East 11th Street. The Obies will be co-hosted by the distinguished actress Tamara Tunie, whose many memorable stage performances include the lead in the Public Theater's Troilus and Cressida, while her film and television credits include Devil's Advocate, FLIGHT, City Hall, Snake Eyes, Eve's Bayou, The Caveman's Valentine, The Red Road, 'Law and Order: SVU', '24', 'Sex and The City', 'NYPD Blue'.

The Production Company's Managing Director of the 2014 Reading Series, Dean Farell Bruggeman, and Artistic Directors August Viverito and T L Kolman proudly announce the third selection for the company's new-play-reading series with Ed Graczyk's beautiful The Blue Moon Dancing, directed by David Youse. The reading takes place at our new studio space, dubbed The Production Company Workspace, at 14731 Oxnard St., Van Nuys, CA 91411, on Sunday, April 27 @ 7 pm, and Monday, April 28 @ 8 PM. Admission is complimentary.

One of the most common questions I encountered as a counselor when working with someone who had just experienced the suicide of a family member or acquaintance was 'Why did s/he do it?' Or, in confronting someone who was suicidal, the question is, 'Why do you want to do that?' Ironically, most of the time there is no thoughtful answer.

Broadway veteran Karen Olivo has just launch a Kickstarter campiagn to raise funds for her debut solo album, which has a planned release in Fall 2015. Olivo writes: 'I have always wanted to do an album of my own and even began working on one not long ago. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete the process…life happened. After choosing a new direction for my art, I'm back to finish what I started. I can't wait to share it with all of you!'

Smokey Joe's Cafe-The Songs of Leiber and Stoller transports audiences to the golden age of rock, rhythm and blues this spring at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Director Randy Johnson returns to Arena Stage following the success of A Night with Janis Joplin (which enjoyed two runs at Arena Stage followed by a subsequent run on Broadway) to helm this Grammy Award-winning tribute to legendary songwriting duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, which originally opened on Broadway in 1995 and became the longest running musical revue, topping 2,000 performances. Bursting with hit tunes including 'Hound Dog,' 'Jailhouse Rock,' 'Stand by Me,' 'Love Potion #9' and 'On Broadway,' Smokey Joe's Cafe showcases choreography by Parker Esse (Arena Stage's The Music Man, Oklahoma!) and music direction by Victor Simonson (Center Stage's A Civil War Christmas, Arena Stage's 3 Mo' Divas) and runs April 25-June 8, 2014 in the Fichandler Stage.

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) presents its annual 2014 Spring Gala 'In Here, Life Is Beautiful' on Monday, March 10th, 2014 at the Hammerstein Ballroom (311 West 34th Street, NYC). The evening will be a celebration of Academy Award, Olivier and Golden Globe winner Sam Mendes, who will be presented with The Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre.
