Photo Flash: First Look at Tom Hewitt, Brenda Braxton, Lindsay Roginski and More in CHICAGO at California Music Circus
by Christina Mancuso - Aug 15, 2013

Its first time ever at Music Circus, the sizzling, sexy Kander and Ebb smash hit Chicago is the final show of the 2013 Music Circus season, with an extended run at the Wells Fargo Pavilion from August 20 - 29. The 1996 revival of this hit musical, one of the cornerstones of the choreographic Broadway legacy of Bob Fosse, won 6 Tony Awards and is still running on Broadway. With a plot centered on murderesses Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, on death row together fighting for the fame that may keep them from the gallows, the show features a number of popular songs including "All That Jazz," "Razzle Dazzle" and "Cell Block Tango." BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek of the production below!

BWW Blog: Kathryn Mowat Murphy - I'm an Everything Dancer
by Guest Blogger: Kathryn Mowat Murphy - Jun 4, 2013

'I'm an everything dancer'. I sat on the floor of the dance studio and listened to a ballet girl tell me to my face that she, if she chose to, could go out and land herself a Broadway show, as "she is an everything dancer. " I told her to go out and do it, because it's that simple. One day you just wake up and say, "I think I will be a Broadway dancer. To say my blood boiled would be an understatement. Now I am not saying this girl wouldn't do it, she definitely has talent, but to say such a flippant comment directly to someone who has had a Broadway show, is not only arrogant, it is delusional.

I have a cat, and his name is Jazz. If I don't pay any attention to Jazz, he begins to meow. This is a simple animalistic act to show he needs my attention. We, being performers, are very similar. If we don't get any attention, we begin to meow. Not out loud, but deep in our soul. We start to pine and, bit by bit, lose our light. We eventually lie down and put our paws over our eyes and fret.

There are performers out there who say they love the rehearsal period more than they do the performances. I, on the other hand, am the complete opposite.

So, how annoyed are you when you are on Facebook reading all the recurring, happy, sappy, posts about how great other people's lives are, and, unfortunately, you are not having the best day or week or year even. Really annoyed I bet. Don't worry-- I am sure there will be a time soon where you too will get the chance to annoy someone.

BWW Blog: Kathryn Mowat Murphy - Stress Week!
by Guest Blogger: Kathryn Mowat Murphy - Apr 22, 2013

Stress week! …taxes, rent , finish choreography, bills, general worries, body aches, bills, teaching classes, Anyone else have this as a big scrolling marquee in their heads. I am sure you do, and I bet you all handle it like troupers; me, not so much. I'm trying my best just to breathe. I have been on the verge of tears for the past two weeks, and I am wondering if the bigwigs in the business always have this level of stress. If so, I would love to know how they handle it. Is there some type of night course for this?

It's coming to the end of winter, and our nerves are frayed. We look out the window, turn on the TV, or listen to the radio in the hope that the sun will be shining. We long for our flip-flops and wish we didn't have to carry 20lbs of dance gear, warm-ups, and audition garb in our bags. Why do we carry all this stuff? Because we take it with us to our survival jobs and don't have time to drop it off at home. We'd rather go to our dance class, singing lesson or expensive acting course that we've signed up for on the advice of our agent. We stop, take a breath, and wonder: is this worth it?

BWW Blog: Kathryn Mowat Murphy - Being Fired
by Guest Blogger: Kathryn Mowat Murphy - Apr 8, 2013

Hands up--who's been fired? Ok-- a) if your hand did not got up, then you're missing out on some wonderful lessons and b} I don't believe you. Everyone at some point, somewhere, has been fired, even if you were five and it was from your best friend's lemonade stand (true story). I always find it amusing that people think this is always a bad thing. I went on to create my own peach punch stand, and was far more successful.

So, welcome to my blog. I should begin with a little about myself. First of all, personality wise, I can be a bit too honest, or blunt, as some people have told me. I speak my mind, what you see is what you get; you either love me or hate me. I am an egg, all hard on the outside but can be all gooey on the inside. I am loyal to the end and will stand up for you when you can't. I can forgive anything except cruelty to animals. Long story, seemingly endless, I am a dancer-singer-actor who has had the pleasure, and sometimes displeasure, of working with some amazing shows on Broadway, on tour, and in a hole in the wall downtown with no coffee pot. All of them are a learning experience; some I still shake my head about.
