Karen Akers Sings Sondheim at San Francisco's The RRazz Room, 9/14-16

The RRazz Room, San Francisco's premier nightclub, presents cabaret singer and actress, KAREN AKERS in her critically acclaimed show "Live, Laugh, Love: Akers Sings Sondheim." Featuring songs from Company, Follies, Sunday in the Park With George and more, the evening was called "ravishing, brilliant and sophisticated" by Rex Reed in The New York Observer when it debuted last year at the Oak Room in New York. The show, which is directed by Eric Michael Gillett and features Musical Director Don Rebic on piano, runs for three nights only on September 14 and 15 at 7:30 PM and September 16 at 4:00 PM.

So many cabaret shows, so little time . . . to write reviews that is. During his almost two years as a cabaret reviewer, BroadwayWorld.com critic Stephen Hanks managed to do a pretty good job of writing critiques during a show's run or soon after the run ended. But this summer he just couldn't keep up. Finally, here are observations on 10 performances over the past two months.

New York's cabaret community just came together to celebrate the legacy of its late great impresario Donald F. Smith in a free public concert. Donald F. Smith, Executive Director and Founder of The Mabel Mercer Foundation, passed away in March, 2012. He created the New York Cabaret Convention 27 years ago. For many years it was held at Town Hall, a building he was instrumental in preserving as a New York City landmark.

Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown has just announced in his blog the release of two seperate sheet music book and accompaniment CD sets of his music. He writes: 'My editor at Hal Leonard, the estimable Rick Walters, called me in 2010 with the idea that we should do a book-and-CD folio of me playing accompaniments to my own songs, with a male and female edition. I thought it was a fantastic idea, and now it's finally out in the world!' The Female edition and Male edition are both available on Amazon.com, as well as iTunes and Sheet Music Direct.
