From tonight to Saturday, April 2-6, 2013, The Kitchen presents the New York premiere of choreographer Camille A. Brown's Mr.TOL E. RAncE. Inspired by Spike Lee's controversial film Bamboozled and Mel Watkins' book On The Real Side: Laughing, Lying, And Signifying - The Underground Tradition of African American Humor that Transformed American Culture, from Slavery to Chris Rock, Brown's ensemble piece celebrates the humor and perseverance of the black performer while examining the stereotypes that persist in popular black culture.
Mr. TOL E. RancE is performed by Brown and her company: Juel D. Lane, Mayte Natalio, Waldean Nelson, Mora-Amina Parker, Willie 'Tre' Smith III and KeonThoulouis, and features original music, which will be played live by Scott Patterson.

Poetic Theater Productions will present Poetic License, the second annual festival of new poetic theater, January 21st through January 27th, 2013. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will officially open its renovated Theater Lab today, November 12, 2012 at 6 p.m. with a performance of music and poetry. The evening will feature Grammy®-nominated jazz vocalist Gregory Porter in a performance curated by award-winning actress, director, playwright, and Artistic Director of the DC Hip-Hop Theatre Festival Kamilah Forbes. The program will blend Porter's music with the spoken word, highlighting works and performances by some of today's most innovative female poets, including Holly Bass, Mahogany Browne, Vanessa Hidary, and Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai. The one-hour performance will be streamed live on the Center's website and archived for future viewing.

Producer Stephen Byrd of the upcoming revival of A Streetcar Named Desire, and the only African American producer to ever win the coveted British Olivier Award (for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof) has just been announced as an addition to the next panel of Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU). This monthly networking panel, Coloring the Great White Way: Bringing Diversity to Commercial Theater, will offer a discussion focused on how to bring more diverse productions and audiences to the traditionally great 'white' way. The panel will take place on March 21 at 7:30pm at the Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street, NYC.
