When the Academy of American Poets created and launched National Poetry Month in April 1996, it couldn't have predicted that its signature program would inspire events in all fifty states, becoming the nation's largest literary celebration. The annual initiative both introduces young readers to poetry and creates an opportunity for teachers, librarians, booksellers, poetry organizations, and poets themselves to showcase the importance of reading and supporting poetry year-round. Today, National Poetry Month remains the Academy of American Poets' special contribution to the art of poetry in the United States, and it is pleased to announce the following activities, initiatives, and resources for this year's celebration.
Poetry Coalition To Offer Programs On The Theme Where My Dreaming And My Loving Live: Poetry & The Body

This March the more than twenty organizations in ten cities nationwide that compose the Poetry Coalition will launch Where My Dreaming and My Loving Live: Poetry & the Body, the coalition's second annual programming initiative. For this collaborative effort, each organization will bring its unique mission to the task of presenting programs and projects on the theme of the body. Programs will include a range of events and publications that address issues including mass incarceration, transphobia, violence against people of color, and health and self-care. This programming is made possible in part by a grant from the Ford Foundation secured by the Academy of American Poets.

Camerata Pacifica continues its 28th season with an eclectic March program of today's greatest living composers, featuring musicians Jason Uyeyama (violin), Molly Morkoski (piano), Kristin Lee (violin), Martin Owen (horn), Jose Franch-Ballester (clarinet), Ani Aznavoorian (cello), and Richard Yongjae O'Neill (viola) performing works by Krystof Penderecki, Kaija Saariaho, Somei Satoh and David Bruce.

Camerata Pacifica Receives Major Gifts: $1.25 Million Bequest & Bart k Auction

Camerata Pacifica ends the year on a prosperous note as the recipient of two major gifts. The renowned chamber music ensemble has received a $1.25 million bequest from the estate of Dr. Bernard Gondos. This is the largest realized bequest, and largest contribution, ever received by Camerata Pacifica.

ast night, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's holiday season at New York City Center kicked off with a star-studded Opening Night Gala Benefit performance and party that honored Ailey Board President Debra L. Lee (Chairman and Chief Executive Office of BET Networks) for her support of the Ailey organization since 2002. Music and film stars Queen Latifah andJanelle Mon e served as honorary chairs for the evening, and the gala co-chairs were Deedra & Bob Bakish, Emily & Len Blavatnik, Paulette & Howard Bradnock, Daria L. & Eric J. Wallach, and Joan & Sandy Weill. Over $2.4 million was raised in support of the creation of new works, scholarships to The Ailey School, and Ailey's extensive educational programs for young people.
