Sometimes in the hustle bustle of today's world with so many 'adult' problems, adults forget what it's like to have been a child. MARY POPPINS has been just that kind of story for children of all ages for years, and Maine State Music Theatre's current production of MARY POPPINS will warm your heart and lift your spirits.

The world's most magical musical has landed in Grand Bend to create a breathtaking adventure for patrons of the historic Huron Country Playhouse. The Drayton Entertainment production of Disney's and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins delights audiences now through August 31st.

Opening this weekend, Curtain Call Performing Arts (CCPA) presents the Broadway musical classic, Anything Goes at the California Conservatory Theatre (CCT), in downtown San Leandro. Inside the intimate theatre venue of CCT, audiences will 'board' the S.S. American and 'sail' along with the cast and musicians, complete with a boarding picture taken as they enter the theater. This delightful ocean-going musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter, and a book by the team of Guy Bolton, P.G. Wodehouse, Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse, 'docks' in the heart of the East Bay for a 14 show run, August 9-25.

Carol Burnett, America's beloved comedienne, is teaming up with legendary mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne at the Music Academy of the West this month for coaching sessions with the young vocalists who will headline this year's Cabaret gala on August 8, which benefits the Music Academy's full-scholarship program. Ms. Burnett, as the Academy's Cabaret Creative Contributor, and Ms. Horne, Voice Program Director, will instruct Music Academy Voice Fellows in the art of musical comedy, both in private classes and individually. The renowned Summer School and Festival, now in its 66th season, runs through August 10 in scenic Santa Barbara.

York has appeared on Broadway as Fantine in Les Miserables; Norma in Victor/Victoria (Drama Desk Award) with Julie Andrews; Marguerite in The Scarlet Pimpernel; Miss Fancy in Sly Fox with Richard Dreyfuss; and Christine Colgate in Dirty Rotten Scoundrelswith Jonathan Pryce. She appeared off-Broadway opposite Julie Andrews in Stephen Sondheim's Putting It Together and in the Lincoln Center Theater production of Dessa Rose. Most recently, Rachel was seen in The Best Is Yet to Come: The Music of Cy Coleman and created the role of Cruella de Vil in The 101 Dalmatians Musical directed by Jerry Zaks.

The show stars Peter Scolari with Conrad John Schuck and Jackie Hoffman. The book is by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart with lyrics and music by Stephen Sondheim; music direction by Ethyl Will; and directed and choreographed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge.

Our 36th Kritzerland show is devoted to the brilliant songs of Meredith Willson and Gene de Paul. Producer Bruce Kimmel has recorded many songs by each and is thrilled to do an entire evening of their wonderful material. Meredith Willson, of course, gave Broadway one of its most enduring hits, THE MUSIC MAN, a musical filled with one amazing song after another, several of which we'll be doing. He also wrote the Broadway and film hit, THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN, HERE'S LOVE (based on MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET), and a musical about Christopher Columbus called 1491 that never made it to Broadway.

The screenings will take place at the Kelsey Theater at MCCC, 1200 Old Trenton Rd West Windsor, NJ.

At Camp Broadway, I get to meet so many kids, parents and families who continue to give me new insights on their journeys as performers or theater-lovers. But I also have the added perspective of getting to meet industry professionals throughout the year when camp isn't necessarily in session. I get to attend conferences, meetings and networking events with producers, marketers, creatives and more.

Bay Street Theatre is announcing that August's Summer Music Theater Camps; August 5-9; and August 12-16 have only a few spaces left. The camps are for students aged 8 through 12, and run Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 12:30 pm daily at Studio 3 in Bridgehampton. Each week long camp includes many aspects of theatre including improv, vocal instruction, dance and more. This summer's first and last week of camp will be led by Karen Peele Hochstedler. Classes held during August 5-9 will be led by Christine Martinez and Bobby Peterson.

The most comprehensive collection of signature costumes from The Sound of Music will be going up for auction later this month. Profiles in History, run by Joe Maddalena, is thrilled to announce that these iconic costumes worn by Julie Andrews and the 'Von Trapp' children, will be on the auction block at their Hollywood auction today, July 29th.
