BWW Reviews: Winning Cast Stars in Beautifully Sung CAMELOT at Arts Center of Cannon County

Camelot's score-with music by Frederick Loewe and book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner-is performed by director Cyndie Verbeten's large ensemble and music director Fran Gebuhr's orchestra with respect for the literature of the piece and with an obvious affection for the characters and their stories, both individual and collective. As a result, the ACCC production is entertaining, made even more accessible by the cast's commitment, with the story made more relevant by the company's lively approach.

'Amazing Grace,' arguably the most recognizable of all Christian hymns, was written in 1779 and is a staple in the American landscape. It has been recorded by such diverse artists as Mahalia Jackson, Willie Nelson, Elvis Presley, Judy Collins, Aretha Franklin, Rod Stewart, and Johnny Cash. After 32 years, it seems as if every year, everyone and his agent sends a one-act play script to The Ensemble Studio Theatre for its annual marathon of one-act plays, the oldest, acclaimed one-act play festival in the country. This year is no exception with 886 one-act scripts totaling 21,264 pages which were read by 17 readers over 5 months. From that, Ensemble Studio Theatre artistic director William Carden selected 10 plays this spring to be presented on two separate programs for the Ensemble Studio Theatre's 2010 Marathon of One-Act Plays May 24 through June 26.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater continues its 15th anniversary season with the world premiere of Post No Bills, a Tex-Mex play with music by Mando Alvarado. Directed by Michael Ray Escamilla, performances begin Thursday, November 11th, 2009. Opening night is Thursday, November 19th at 7pm. The show is scheduled to run through Sunday, December 13th, 2009.
