Music Director James Levine Leads The MET Orchestra at Carnegie Hall Today

The MET Orchestra concludes its 2012-2013 season at Carnegie Hall with the much anticipated return of Music Director James Levine leading the orchestra today, May 19 at 3:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. Maestro Levine is set to conduct the prelude to Act I of Wagner's Lohengrin; Schubert's Symphony No. 9, 'Great'; and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major, Op. 58, with pianist Evgeny Kissin. Maestro Levine last performed at Carnegie Hall with the MET Orchestra on Sunday, April 10, 2011 with Mr. Kissin.

The Hetrick-Martin Institute is presenting a benefit concert at Grace Church Newark featuring the music of Pulitzer Prize, Academy Award and Grammy Award winning composer John Corigliano, Mark Adamo, and Conrad Cummings among others.

ALTERED STATES Screens with Live Orchestra at Fulcrum Point Tonight

Expanding on its popular 'Movie Music' programs that feature live orchestration of film scene scores, Chicago's new art music leader, Fulcrum Point New Music Project, with a 100-member orchestra, presents the complete film score and screening of the 1980 science fiction classic, Altered States. The live score performance is part of a citywide, four-day 'Forever Young' festival celebrating the 75th birthday of modern master composer John Corigliano. Fulcrum Point presents Altered States in one performance only at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph Street, tonight, April 23 at 7 pm.

Composers & the Voice Program Will Return for American Opera Projects' 2013-14 Season

American Opera Projects (AOP) announces the return of its popular Composers & the Voice program for its 2013-14 season. Created and led by Composers & the Voice Artistic Director Steven Osgood, six composers or composer/librettist teams will be selected for a year-long fellowship, working with the company's Reside nt Ensemble of Singers and Artistic Team. Applications and additional information can be found at AOP's website www.operaprojects.org/composers_voice. The deadline for applications is May 17, 2013. All sessions will be at AOP's home base in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.

Violinst Nigel Armstrong Plays Bach at Baroque Conversations, 4/11

Leading young violinist Nigel Armstrong, the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition finalist who made his critically acclaimed Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) debut last season, returns to the Southland on Thursday, April 11, 2013, 7 pm, at Zipper Hall in downtown Los Angeles, to headline an all-Bach violin recital for LACO's “Baroque Conversations,” a five-concert series that explores the genesis of orchestral repertoire from early Baroque schools through the pre-classical period. Hailed as “an astonishing talent, with exquisite technique,” Armstrong discusses and performs Bach's Partita No. 2 in D minor for Solo Violin, BWV 1004, a spiritual, emotional and technical tour de force considered among the greatest works ever written, and the Sonata No. 3 in C major for Solo Violin, BWV 1005. The solo recital marks Armstrong's return to his alma mater, The Colburn Conservatory, from which he graduated last year. He is currently in the Diploma program at Curtis Institute of Music. A complimentary wine reception for ticket holders begins at 6 pm.

Redler & Cooper Open WINDOWS at OPERAtion Brooklyn, 3/23

On Saturday, March 23, 7:30pm, composer Zach Redler and librettist Sara Cooper, the creative team behind next month's musical 'The Memory Show' at the Duke Theater, will premiere their latest work 'Windows' featuring singers Sumayya Ali (The Gershwins' Porgy & Bess) and Etai BenShlomo (Wicked). Part of AOP (American Opera Projects) and Opera on Tap's new music series, 'OPERAtion Brooklyn' the 40-minute staged song-cycle will be followed by excerpts from two new operas - Decoration and Smashed. The performances will take place on multiple floors of ART-NY's South Oxford Space (138 S. Oxford St., Brooklyn 11217) in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Audiences will have the opportunity to see and hear the composers' works-in-progress at free lab workshops today, March 5, 2013 at 10am at Flushing Town Hall (137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing, NY), and Today, April 2, 2013 at 2pm at The DiMenna Center (450 W. 37th St., NYC). coLABoratory culminates on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 7:30pm with a concert featuring all of the new works at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall, conducted by ACO Music Director George Manahan.

Marking its 15th Anniversary this year, Chicago's Fulcrum Point New Music Project has grown into a critically acclaimed ensemble performing adventurous contemporary classical music programs in a variety of Chicago area venues. In 2013, Fulcrum Point continues this tradition with a wide ranging season including a performance with 100-member orchestra of the John Corigliano film score, 'Altered States,' accompanying the film screening, April 23, in honor of the composer's 75th birthday year, along with presenting a free Concert for Peace in the Pritzker Pavillion at Millennium Park with special guest artists, sarod virtuoso Soumik Datta and the Chicago Children's Choir, September 11.
