Guitarist Extraordinaire Pablo Sáinz Villegas to Serve as the Santa Barbara Symphony's Inaugural Artist-in-Residence

Classical guitar virtuoso Pablo Sáinz Villegas, whose charismatic stage presence and formidable technique have dazzled audiences throughout much of the world, will headline a pair of concerts at the Granada Theatre and take part in multiple community outreach events as the Santa Barbara Symphony's inaugural artist-in-residence during the 2017-18 season. Mr. Villegas, who captivated local audiences in a pair of electrifying concerts to conclude the Santa Barbara Symphony's 2015-16 season, will rejoin the orchestra for Joaquín Rodrigo's sensuous Concierto de Aranjuez as well as Isaac Albéniz's evocative Souvenirs of Spain at the Granada Theatre on November 18 and 19. He will also perform a solo concert at the Royal Presidio of Santa Barbara on November 16, and present educational programs for area children at The Granada on January 18 and 19. Additional events are being planned.

AOP (American Opera Projects) and Composers & the Voice Artistic Director Steven Osgood have selected six composers and three librettists to receive fellowships for its upcoming ninth season of Composers & the Voice. The 2017-2019 season will train, and present new works from, composers Matthew Browne, Scott Ordway, Frances Pollock, Pamela Stein Lynde, Liliya Ugay, and Amber Vistein and librettists Laura Barati, Kim Davies, and Sokunthary Svay. The primary focus of Composers & the Voice is to give emerging composers and librettists experience working collaboratively with singers on writing for the voice and contemporary opera stage.

Five Talents Join Metropolitan Opera's Young Artists Development Program

Beginning in the 2017-18 season, the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artists Development Program welcomes five new young artists into the acclaimed program established by Met Music Director Emeritus James Levine in 1980. Well, three cheers for On Site Opera, for completing its trilogy of works based on Beaumarchais' 18th century 'Figaro' plays and digging deep into the repertoire to deliver some lesser known works. First, a BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA not by Rossini (theirs, by Giovanni Paisiello) and then a FIGARO not by Mozart (instead, Marcos Portugal).
