Tune in to PBS tonight, September 27, 2012, at 8 p.m.* for Live From Lincoln Center's telecast of the New York Philharmonic's Opening Gala conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert. The program will feature world famous violinist Itzhak Perlman performing personal favorites including Williams' Theme from Schindler's List and Massenet's "Meditation from Tha?s, as well as works by Sarasate, Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. The broadcast, which features extended artist profiles, will also include Respighi's celebrated Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic begins its 2012/13 season with an evening honoring the rich tradition of dance rhythms in orchestral music with its Opening Night Concert and Gala: The Philharmonic Dances, led by Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, tonight, September 27, at Walt Disney Concert Hall. The Philharmonic Dances opens with a pre-concert cocktail reception, at 6 pm, followed by the 7 pm concert, with dinner and dancing to follow.

In the wake of a memorable season that witnessed the inauguration of Maison symphonique, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal announces the extension of the contract of its music director, Maestro Kent Nagano, through to the conclusion of the 2015-2016 season. The OSM and Kent Nagano are pleased to confirm that they are carrying on their fruitful collaboration by exercising the option of the two additional years stipulated in the current three-year contract, which has been in effect since September 2011. That collaboration may continue for a longer period further to a mutual agreement between the two parties.

Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts opens the 2012-13 season of its Composer Portraits series with a 100th birthday celebration of the influential composer John Cage, starring International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Jessica Aszodi, mezzo-soprano, and Steven Schick, conductor. The Co-Founder and former Chairman of IMG Artists Charles Hamlen will become Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) new Vice President for Artists & Programs, effective October 2012. In this role, Mr. Hamlen will plan repertoire and artistic collaborations for OSL's annual orchestra series at Carnegie Hall, chamber music series at The Morgan Library & Museum and Brooklyn Museum, summer residency at Caramoor International Music Festival, Subway Series, OSL@DMC and other special projects. Mr. Hamlen will follow Elizabeth Ostrow, the current Vice President, Artistic Planning, who has worked at OSL for the past 16 years.
