2019 has come and gone, and we are reflecting on those we have lost in the Broadway and theatre communities throughout the year.

Marilyn Maye brought her new show in celebration of her birthday month to Feinstein's/54Below for two weeks in April.

The sidewalk in front of Theatre 80 Saint Marks Place has been called the "East Coast Grauman's", and Fodor's Travel magazine calls it 'one of the eight things to see in the USA.' On Sunday, February 18, from 4:00-6:00pm, star of stage, screen, television and one of New York's legendary bonhomie, Joe Sirola, will add his signature and handprints to the historic sidewalk.

The Lambs, America's first professional theater club and one of the oldest professional theatrical organizations in the U.S., marked its 90-year association with Sardi's proclaiming it the Club's favorite watering hole...outside The Lambs. The security was tight in the Monastery last night as politicians, tennis legends, celebrities and Friars gathered in the Frank Sinatra Dining Room to pay tribute to David Dinkins on his 90th birthday.   The security protection wasn't good enough however to stop one of the greatest comedians on the planet, Dean Emeritus Freddie Roman (MC) to have some fun with the former Mayor.  As a matter of fact Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who made a special trip down from Albany to be at the Friars got some laughs himself during his heartfelt tribute to Mr. Dinkins.  There was much love, laughter, joy, and a few tears in the club during the evening, as there always is in the Friars Club.  I couldn't help thinking as I watched all the Democrats and  Republicans in the room enjoying each others camaraderie, how great it would be if all our representatives in Washington would become Friars, meet in The Monastery, feel the love, and solve the nations problems. 

CAGNEY The Musical has played to sold out audiences for 473 performances at the West Side Theatre in New York City. The big question posed to enterprising producer Riki Kane Larimer at the closing night celebration was 'where will Broadway's Robert Creighton, (in the role he was born to play) and cast be bringing the story of James Cagney to next?'  

Cagney, the hit musical about Hollywood's tough guy in tap shoes, will conclude its celebrated run at The Westside Theatre on Sunday, May 28, 2017. Cagney began performances at The Westside Theatre March 16, 2016, prior to an official opening on April 3, 2016. When Cagney takes its final curtain call at The Westside Theatre, the production will have played a total of 502 performances (including 21previews).

 Broadway Producer and three time Tony Award winner Jamie deRoy held her annual Jamie deRoy & friends Tony Award show last night and the Red Carpet was rolled out at Birdland for the star studded event.  Jamie's fans and friends had their cell phone cameras at the ready as one by one Jamie introduced her award-winning cast which included, Chuck Cooper (The Life) Penny Fuller (Sunday in the Park with George, Cabaret), Mandy Gonzalez (Hamilton, In the Heights), Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood) with special guest, Patti Cohenour (War Paint, The Mystery of Edwin Drood), Doreen Montalvo (On Your Feet, In the Heights) and Paulo Szot (South Pacific) with Billy Stritch.  

A cast of award winning performers, friends and colleagues will gather to pay tribute to the life and career of Tony Award winning Broadway legend Tammy Grimes in The Ziegfeld Society's The Unsinkable Tammy Grimes: A Musical Life in Revue, featuring reminiscences and musical numbers from Miss Grimes iconic Broadway musicals. The event will take place on Saturday, April 29th at 3:30 pm at Lang Concert Hall (69th Street between Park and Lexington).

The company of Cagney, the hit musical about Hollywood's tough guy in tap shoes, will celebrate one year of performances at The Westside Theatre on Tuesday, April 4.

Since 1905 the Dutch Treat Club a social club of writers, artists, illustrators, publishers, and performers have had the rich, famous, and talented appear at their Tuesday Luncheons. Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammersteinll, Walter Cronkite, Jose Ferrer, Lowell Thomas Edward R. Murrow, and quite a few of U.S. Presidents have been members. This Tuesday the club met at The Players Club in Gramercy Square to hear a talk by The New York Times Columnist Gail Collins and American Songbook Standards sung by Richard Malavet. Ray Errol Fox president of the club greeted the members and introduced Ms. Collins, and Karen Oberlin introduced Mr. Malavet.

Joe Sirola, who has been called the 'King of Voice-Overs' - having been heard or seen in over 10,000 commercials throughout his long and fun career - co-starred with the great Jimmy Cagney in his last film (Terrible Joe Moran).
