The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will host its fifth annual Symphony Gala on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta. The evening will include a performance by Broadway star, comedian and actor Jason Alexander with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO). Paper Mill Playhouse released a block of great seats today for its holiday musical, Elf, for the week following Christmas. Expanded availability includes performances from December 27, 2014 through January 4, 2015. Based on the 2003 film starring Will Ferrell, Elf has a book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Chad Beguelin. Elf is directed by Eric Ankrim and choreographed by Josh Rhodes. Elf runs eight times a week at the Millburn, New Jersey, theater through January 4, 2015. Elf has been playing to many sold-out houses since November 26. New York City Ballet announced today that Andrew Litton has been named the Company's next Music Director. Litton, who currently serves as Music Director of both Norway's Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Denver's Colorado Symphony Orchestra, will become NYCB's Music Director Designate, effective immediately, and will begin his first season as the Company's Music Director next September for the start of NYCB's 2015-16 season.

A musical doesn't need falling chandeliers, flying green girls, a budget larger than the GDP of most nations, or even show-stopping numbers to be successful. All a show really needs to resonate with an audience is a strong story and interesting characters. Those two elements are precisely why Fiddler on the Roof has enchanted audiences for 50 years and counting, and The Playhouse's current production of it is a wonderful example of how moving this simple musical can be.

Producers R. Erin Craig and La Vie Productions just presented a benefit staged reading of the Newtown docudrama 26 Pebbles, a stirring new play that explores a community in transition after a tragedy, by Eric Ulloa and directed by Igor Goldin. The cast featured Broadway veterans Karen Mason,Richard Masur, Mike McGowan, Mamie Parris, and Jennifer Swiderski at the one-night only event hosted by the Culture Project at The Lynn Redgrave Theater (45 Bleecker Street) last night, December 15th, in commemoration of the second anniversary of the tragedy at Sandy Hook. Proceeds from the event will benefit a collection of charities chosen by the citizens of the City of Newtown, whose voices and testimonies are evocatively presented-verbatim-in 26 Pebbles.

Responsible for producing some of the dance world's most influential artists-Pavlova, Nijinsky, Balanchine, Nureyev, Baryshnikov-the Mariinsky Ballet and Orchestra make a rare appearance at BAM January 15 through 25 with a series of full-length classics and contemporary ballets. Representing three centuries of Russian ballet, the residency opens with two full-length works-the Tchaikovsky classic Swan Lake, choreographed by Petipa and Ivanov, revised by Sergeyev; and Prokofiev's Cinderella from contemporary ballet choreographer Alexei Ratmansky. The company will also present Chopin: Dances for Piano-a repertory program featuring Michel Fokine's Chopiniana, Jerome Robbins' In the Night, and Benjamin Millepied's Without. In response to demand, a second performance of this repertory program has been added on January 25 at 3pm, as well as a performance of Cinderella on Jan 20 at 7:30pm.
