Mint Theater's TEMPORAL POWERS Closes 10/2

Mint Theater's productin of Temporal Powers will close on October 2nd at the Mint's home in the heart of the theater district, 311 West 43rd Street. Ben Brantley, in The New York Times Arts & Leisure (August 21st) hailed the Mint as the 'resurrectionist extraordinaire of forgotten plays.'

The Drama Desk and OBIE Award-winning Mint Theater Company re-introduced Teresa Deevy to the world in the summer of 2010 with the production of her brilliant play Wife To James Whelan. Mint's Deevy Project continues with Temporal Powers, opening August 29th and continuing through September 25th at the Mint's home in the heart of the theater district, 311 West 43rd Street.

In his lengthy notes discussing the thought process behind his LAByrinth Theater Company/Public Theater mounting of Othello, director Peter Sellars explains how our view of Shakespeare's drama of an outsider Moor put into a position of power in an otherwise white society, must change in an era where Barack Obama can become President of the United States. His is an interracial Othello, with Latino John Ortiz (LAByrinth Theater co-founder) as the Moor, white actor (and longtime LAByrinth associate) Philip Seymour Hoffman as the underling Iago who tries to bring him down and an assortment of white, black and Latinos rounding out the company.

Casting is announced for 'That Championship Season' at Westport Country Playhouse, the first production to be directed by Mark Lamos since he was named artistic director in February 2009 at the historic theater in Westport, Connecticut. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award and New York Drama Critics Circle Award, 'That Championship Season' by Jason Miller will run August 25 through September 12.
