York Shakespeare Company Presents LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT, 5/28-6/12

The York Shakespeare Company will present Eugene O'Neill's LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT, directed by Seth Duerr. LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT will play a three-week limited engagement at the Lion Theater (410 West 42nd Street address). Performances begin Friday, May 28 and continue thru Saturday, June 12. Opening Night is Saturday, May 29 (8 p.m.).

Two sisters separated by the Holocaust reunite in the aftermath of World War II in Barbara Lebow's powerful and profoundly moving A Shayna Maidel. ICT artistic director Shashin Desai directs Liza de Weerd, Larry Eisenberg, Laura Howard, Charles Pasternak, Julia Silverman and Erin Anne Williams in a four-week run June 11 through July 3 at International City Theatre in the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. Low-priced previews begin June 8.

John Guare To Serve As Judge For Yale Drama Series

Writers' Theatre Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma announce that A Minister's Wife, Writers' Theatre's musical adapted from George Bernard Shaw's Candida, will be produced by Lincoln Center Theater in the 2010-11 season. The original musical was conceived and directed by Michael Halberstam, adapted by Austin Pendleton with music by Joshua Schmidt and lyrics by Jan Tranen. The Lincoln Center production will be directed by Halberstam. Performances begin on Thursday, April 7, 2011 and opens on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street, New York City).

The U.K.'s Independent reports today that Sir Ian McKellen has been honored with the Empire Icon Award for his work on screen at the 2010 Jameson Empire Awards. Said McKellen on his win: 'I couldn't be more surprised or delighted. Middle-earth rejoices!' Also honored at the ceremony was Jude Law with the Empire Hero Award for his role of Dr. Watson in Sherlock Holmes.
