TCG/ITI-US Celebrates the 50th Annual World Theatre Day

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre and home of the U.S. Center of the International Theatre Institute (ITI-US), invites all theatres, individual artists, institutions and audiences to celebrate the 50th annual World Theatre Day on March 27, 2012. Each year, a renowned theatre artist of world stature is invited by ITI Worldwide in Paris to craft an international message to mark the global occasion. This year the message will be written by award-winning actor, director and producer John Malkovich. Upon its release in March, the message will be translated into more than 20 languages to reach tens of thousands in the international theatre community.

Salomee Spleet is proud to announce the world premiere of a new translation by Chicago Dramatists' resident playwright Alice Austen of Marguerite Duras' La Musica, directed by Noemi Schlosser, April 19 - May 12. Opening/Press night is Thursday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. Performances are Thursday, April 19, Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Chicago Dramatists, 1105 West Chicago Ave. The production then moves for the remainder of the run (Saturday, April 28, Friday, May 4 and May 11, Saturday, May 5 and May 12 at 7 p.m.) to Alliance Francaise, 54 West Chicago Ave. Tickets are $25, which includes a complimentary glass of French wine. There is an industry performance Monday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Alliance Francaise, tickets are $10 for industry professionals. A delicate costume design by Picasso for Diaghilev's ballet Parade is one of the highlights of the next Impressionist & Modern Art auction on April 4th 2012 at Bonhams, 13 Montpelier Street, Knightsbridge, London. Ruth Graham of Bonhams Impressionist department comments, "We're really excited to be holding the first of our mid-season Impressionist and Modern Art sales. The auction includes a broad selection of paintings, works on paper, sculptures and ceramics by some of the leading artists of the 20th century, with prices ranging from just £500 to £18,000."

Leigh Fondakowski, Founding Member of Tectonic Theatre Project, will teach a three-day intensive workshop on 'Moment Work,' the approach to dramatic creation that has led to the company's award-winning work including Gross Indecency and The Laramie Project. In this workshop, students actively engage with the elements of the stage - exploring lights, sound, costumes, movement, text, architecture and more - to discover their full theatrical potential and the poetry inherent in each element. The workshop culminates in a presentation of the Moments created over the course of the weekend.

As previously rumored, Rob Asford confirmed today in tthe New York Times that there are still plans to bring London's Donmar Warehouse production of ANNA CHRISTIE to Broadway. Starring Jude Law and Ruth Wilson, Ashford told the NYT that 'Mr. Law and the rest of the Donmar cast would like to do the play on Broadway, but it was a matter of scheduling.'

Phoenix Theatre Ensemble, announces that Heather Smaha, a recent graduate from New York's SUNY Purchase College, is the winner of the third annual Eve Adamson Excellence in Lighting Design Award. The award presentation will take place at the performance of the company's production of Yasmina Reza's 'Art,' on Saturday, December 10 at 8:00 pm at The Wild Project, 195 E 3rd Street, New York's premiere green/eco-conscious theatre.
