The World Science Festival presents "Science & Story: The Art of Communicating Science Across All Media," which will explore the communication of science on the page, on the screen, and on the stage, and illuminate the process of translating science into compelling narratives for each format.

Watson, Nobel Prize winner for the discovery of the double-helix structure of DNA, the greatest scientific breakthrough of the 20th century, will join in a panel discussion on the controversial race for that discovery surrounding Rosalind Franklin, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins and himself as depicted in Anna Ziegler's new play, Photograph 51, currently on stage at The Ensemble Studio Theatre as part The Ensemble Studio Theatre/ Alfred P. The World Science Festival (www.worldsciencefestival.com) today announced a sweeping line-up of cutting-edge and innovative science programming, designed to make science captivating and accessible to the general public.

Indiana University Associate Professor Osamu James Nakagawa was confirmed as a Guggenheim Fellow last week. Fellows were announced Tuesday, April 7. This marks the 85th year for the annual competition, established to honor 'stellar achievement and exceptional promise for continued accomplishment' to add to the 'educational, literary, artistic and scientific power of this country, and also to provide for the cause of better international understanding,' according to the organization's mission statement.

First Light Festival 2009 is a presentation of new works commissioned by the EST/Sloan Project, an initiative designed to stimulate artists to create credible and compelling work exploring the worlds of science and technology and to challenge the existing stereotypes of scientists and engineers in the popular imagination. Now in its eleventh season, The Ensemble Studio Theatre/Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Science & Technology Project (Graeme Gillis, Program Director) program has received proposals now numbering in the hundreds, and EST/Sloan has commissioned some two hundred projects for development with grants ranging from $500 to $10,000. Each season the EST/Sloan Project commissions and develops new works, and presents the results, at various stages from first readings to fully mounted productions, in the FIRST LIGHT Festival.
