The 9th season of New York Theatre Barn's New Works Series launches tonight, March 1, 2016 at The Cell. The evening features pre-premieres of two new musicals: Luna and the Gold River Docks and Sapien Sapien Sapien, and also includes a sneak peek of the musical Tink.

Encores! Artistic Director Jack Viertel today announced casting for the Encores! production of 1776, the classic Tony Award-winning musical about how the founding fathers drafted the Declaration of Independence and gave birth to a new nation. 1776 will star Terence Archie, John Behlmann, Larry Bull, Nikki Renee Daniels, Andre De Shields, Macintyre Dixon, Santino Fontana, Alexander Gemignani, John Hickok, John Hillner, John Larroquette, Kevin Ligon, John-Michael Lyles, Laird Mackintosh, Michael McCormick, Michael Medeiros, Christiane Noll, Bryce Pinkham, Wayne Pretlow, Tom Alan Robbins, Robert Sella, Ric Stoneback, Jubilant Sykes, Vishal Vaidya, Nicholas Ward, and Jacob Keith Watson.

The 9th season of New York Theatre Barn's New Works Series launches on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at The Cell. The evening features pre-premieres of two new musicals: Luna and the Gold River Docks and Sapien Sapien Sapien, and also includes a sneak peek of the musical Tink. Kirsten Scott (Follies) will replace Jenn Colella in the presentation of the new musical Luna and the Gold River Docks.

Amelie, A New Musical won the hearts of Bay Area audiences this fall, and according to the Record, it might soon win the hearts of New York audiences. Director Pam MacKinnon revealed in a recent interview that she hopes the show will arrive on Broadway in the next year and a half.

Originally scheduled to close on October 4, the world premiere will now play through Sunday, October 11. 2015 Lotte Lenya Competition Winners Announced!

In a record-breaking year for the number of prizes and total cash awarded, Lauren Michelle, of Los Angeles, won the $15,000 First Prize in the finals of the 2015 Lotte Lenya Competition, sponsored by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music and held on April 18, 2015, in Kilbourn Hall of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. Robin Bailey, of London, U.K., and Jordan Davidson, of Philadelphia, N.Y., both won Second Prizes of $10,000, and two Third Prizes of $7,500 each were awarded to Adam Fieldson, of Lincoln, Neb., and Michael Maliakel, of New York.
