Disney Theatrical Productions has just announced that Capathia Jenkins will play the role of Medda in Newsies when the show begins performances at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre on March 15th in advance of a March 29th opening.

Disney Theatrical Productions has announced the Broadway cast of Newsies. Joining the previously announced Jeremy Jordan as Jack Kelly are John Dossett (2003 revival of Gypsy) as Joseph Pulitzer, Kara Lindsay (Little House on the Prairie) as Katherine Plumber, Ben Fankhauser (Spring Awakening national tour) as Davey, Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Mary Poppins) as Crutchie, and Lewis Grosso (Mary Poppins), and Matthew Schechter (Elf) alternating the role of Les. Dossett, Lindsay, Fankhauser and Keenan-Bolger will all reprise the roles they created in the Paper Mill Playhouse production last fall. Casting for the role of Medda will be announced shortly.

Newsies, the new American musical, will move to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre (208 W 41st St) for a strictly limited 101 performance run following its critically-hailed stint at Paper Mill Playhouse earlier this fall.

Though you probably read the news exclusively here on BroadwayWorld.com back on January 4, it's now official - Jeremy Jordan, who created the role of rebellious newsboy leader Jack Kelly in Newsies last fall, will play the role when the show moves to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre March 15th for a strictly limited 101 performance engagement.

Recently, Richard pinned down one of Broadway's most exciting new leading men, Jeremy Jordan, still on a high ftom a breakout year that has included the leading roles in both Frank Wildhorn's BONNIE & CLYDE - now playing at the Schoenfeld Theatre - and Disney's NEWSIES, which is heading to Broadway this spring. A true star in-the-making, Jordan opens up about carrying two major productions, where he finds his inspiration and how he has managed to remain true to himself.

Though innocent of the crimes committed by their onstage counterparts, the stars of the new shoot-'em-up Broadway musical, BONNIE AND CLYDE, which opened at the Schoenfeld Theatre on December 1, 2011, are no guiltless parties. Viewers from across the country will get a preview of the eagerly anticipated new Broadway musical Newsies during the 85th Anniversary Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Newsies will take to the streets to perform the show-stopping tap number 'King of New York' live in Herald Square during the first hour of the television broadcast, beginning at 9AM Eastern on NBC.

NEWSIES ran earlier this year at Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey this September - October, opening to great reviews and sold out audiences. Now, the New York Times is first to report that NEWSIES will hit Broadway running from March 15 - June 10 at the Nederlander Theater in a new, $5 million dollar limited run production.

The Giants will be playing against the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

The first Broadway Show my parents ever took me to see was Peter Pan. I remember this fluttery feeling in my stomach as the orchestra started to play the overture, and a few years later I was surprised to experience that same feeling as I waited off stage to make my entrance during a summer camp production of 'Charlotte's Web' (I played the Narrator). Of course I soon grew up, got training and also got critical and even though I still love performing in and attending shows, it's rare that I feel the butterflies. But last week, at Paper Mill Playhouse's production of Newsie's the Musical, I could feel them....and they were fluttering around inside my seven-year-old daughter's tummy as she sat beside me!

Hundreds of Newsies fans (affectionately known as Fansies) attended the special Newsies Fan Day reception, talk-back and performance on Sunday, October 2nd at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ. The event sold out, weeks in advance, but hundreds of lucky fans had their childhood dreams come true. Along with the entire stage cast, members of the original movie cast and creative team participated in the event including: Gabriel Damon (Spot Conlon), Luke Edwards (Les Jacobs), Shon Greenblatt (Oscar Delancy), Arvie Lowe Jr. (Boots), David Moscow (Davey), David Sheinkoph (Morris Delancy), David Sidoni (Pie Eater), Kevin Stey (Swifty), David Moscow (Davey), Jack Feldman (Librettist), Ms Noni White (Screenwriter), Jeff Calhoun (Stage Director) and the film's director and choreographer Mr. Kenny Ortega.

According tot he NJ.com, nine theatre-goers were asked to leave during intermission of Paper Mill Playhouse's NEWSIES last week due to 'unruly behavior.' Theatre representative Shayne Miller commented on the incident: 'There was an altercation, something about poking another patron in the back. They were being rowdy and loud, talking on their cell phones in the theater.'

Paper Mill Playhouse (Mark S. Hoebee- Producing Artistic Director, Todd Schmidt-Managing Director) will host a Newsies Fan Day at the Millburn theater on Sunday, October 2nd. Newsies Fan Day is an opportunity for Newsies fans nationwide to celebrate this cult phenomenon. Participants will have the opportunity to attend a Newsies Fan Reception at 5pm in the Renee Foosaner Art Gallery on the campus of Paper Mill Playhouse. At 6:00pm, there will be a Newsies Cast Talk-Back where both the stage cast and members of the film cast will discuss Newsies. The Newsies Fan Package costs $25 and includes: the Newsies Fan Reception, Newsies Cast Talk-Back and a Newsies gift. To participate in Newsies Fan Day, you must hold a ticket to the Newsies fan performance at 7:00pm on Sunday, October 2nd, sold separately. Radio Disney will be on campus to join in the festivities.

Newsies is inspired by the real life ‘Newsboy Strike of 1899,' when newsboy Kid Blink led the ragged orphans and runaways known as newsies on a two-week-long action against Joseph Pulitzer, William Randolph Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, the musical is the tale of newsie Jack Kelly, who dreams of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when Pulitzer and Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsies' expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies his army of newsies to strike. The on stage premiere of NEWSIES opened this Sunday, September 25, at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey. The musical is based on the 1899 true story of a courageous group of scrappy newsboys who become unlikely heroes when they rally forces to fight an unscrupulous newspaper tycoon. 'NEWSIES' features a book by Harvey Fierstein, lyrics by Jack Feldman and music by Alan Menken. Based on the Disney film written by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White.
