Cape Town City Ballet's bumper festive season of ballet kicks off this week, offering audiences a special peek behind scenes of their new ballet on 6 December at 18h00 with Insight into The Tin Soldier in the Artscape Opera House. This is followed by the world premiere of The Tin Soldier on 11 December and the opening nights of Belles & Beaux on 18 December and Night & Day on 31 December. This is the first time that a ballet company in South Africa offers a season of 3 ballets in one month!

The fairytale of a toy tin soldier's love for a beautiful paper ballerina is the story of a brand new ballet, set to have its world premiere in Cape Town on 11 December 2013. The Tin Soldier, choreographed by Cape Town City Ballet's artistic director Robin van Wyk, guarantees perfect family entertainment during the upcoming festive season.

Cape Town City Ballet's Annual Awards Evening, a highlight on the South African ballet calendar, took place at their studio in Rondebosch last night. Several prizes were awarded at the glittering event, attended by members of Friends of Cape Town City Ballet.

16 years since it was last seen on stage in Cape Town, Cape Town City Ballet has brought RAYMONDA back to the Artscape for a short winter season. It is a beautiful production of a ballet that is infamously light on narrative and heavy on dance, which makes for an evening of some first class performances and some frustration when it comes to experiencing the piece as a complex and compelling piece of storytelling.
