The Tony Award®-winning Old Globe presents the world premiere of Back Back Back, by Globe Playwright-in-Residence Itamar Moses (The Four of Us, Bach at Leipzig), directed by Davis McCallum, to run in the Globe's arena stage at the San Diego Museum of Art's James S. The Edgerton Foundation has announced their selected plays for 2008. The plays listed below are funded by the Edgerton Foundation's New American Play Awards. Since 2006, this funding program has provided over twenty TCG member theatres with financial resources to increase rehearsal time with the full production team onsite at the theatre. Today Berkeley Repertory Theatre, which in the last 40 years has earned a reputation for developing provocative new plays, received a prestigious grant to fund its 50th world premiere: the Edgerton Foundation presented this Tony Award-winning theatre with its coveted New American Play Award to support the latest work from the team that made Eurydice a national hit. The $54,000 grant will provide extra rehearsal time for In the Next Room (or the vibrator play), an elegant comedy that Berkeley Rep has commissioned from MacArthur fellow Sarah Ruhl.

'Passing Strange' Concludes Run With Spike Lee's Filming

The long, strange trip is coming to an end: Passing Strange, the rock musical that was born at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, enjoyed an extended off-Broadway run at The Public Theater, and then burst onto Broadway with its original cast intact is scheduled to close this Sunday - but not until it's saved on film. On Saturday, celebrated director Spike Lee will shoot two of the show's final performances to preserve it for future generations!

Tony Taccone, the artistic director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, announced today that the Tony Award-winning company will conclude its 2008/09 Season with the world premiere of You, Nero, a new comedy written by Amy Freed and directed by Sharon Ott, will rule the Thrust Stage from May 8 through June 21, 2009. Starring Danny Scheie as the preposterous emperor of ancient Rome, You, Nero will be produced in association with South Coast Repertory, where it debuts in January.

Today Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced that its board of directors has elected two new board members as well as two new board officers. These community leaders will guide the Tony Award-winning theatre as it enters its thrilling 41st season this fall. The leadership of Julie Matlof Kennedy and Oz Erickson will benefit Berkeley Rep for the first time, and this season's new officers include Marge Randolph and Scott Haber. Their guidance will be invaluable in the coming season, which features work by renowned directors Delroy Lindo, Sharon Ott, Les Waters, and Mary Zimmerman, as well as award-winning playwrights Martin McDonagh, Sarah Ruhl, and Berkeley's own Itamar Moses.
