AXIS Dance Company Closes Out 2018 With A Flourish & Announces Collaboration With Arthur Pita

Following a successful 4-city tour of Florida that included a well-received appearance at the Forward Motion Physically Integrated Dance Festival in Miami, the company brings its vaunted skill set back to the Bay Area with select performances that include a newly reconceived staging of Robert Dekkers' Flutter, along with AXIS Artistic Director Marc Brew's Quartet No.1 to the Berkeley Ballet Theater, that will then be followed by a collaboration with Crowded Fire Theater, Star Finch, and Ensemble Mik Nawooj at the Bay View Opera House in San Francisco entitled Death Become Life: Banish Darkness, all before segueing to its 2019-20 season that will include a special Oakland-based educational event for Dance Access Day in February, as well as the world premiere of Alice in Oakland-their ambitious and much anticipated collaboration with Arthur Pita-coming to and co-presented by Z Space in San Francisco, November 2019
Bessie Winners Announced Tonight At NYU Skirball Center For The Performing Arts

The night remained forever young at this year's Bessies, what with live performances, videos, tearful and grinning thank you's, hugs and cheers for the new slew of winners, and a costume sashay thrown into wild mix of celebration that took place tonight, October 8, at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. As a prelude to the goings-on inside, impromptu dance performances, including Simone Forti's "Huddle," took place outside. Ayodele Casel and Shernita Anderson hosted the evening.

This first-ever collaboration by the pair who have been partners for many years also marks the debut of the Joe Goode Performance Group venturing into producing and presenting outside artists. Girl is the drag-inflected culmination of Fauxnique and electronic musician Kate's longtime fascination with pairing intellectual rigor and critical theory to popular entertainment forms they adore-including music, contemporary dance and film-and letting fly with provocative and even thrilling results; among other elements and questions, Girl will deftly mine the "final girl" horror movie trope as an investigative tool, all as Halloween and the November mid-terms converge on the horizon.
