Pride week at Joyce will include the Joyce debut of trailblazing transgender choreographer Sean Dorsey and his acclaimed company Sean Dorsey Dance, performing the anticipated New York premiere of THE MISSING GENERATION. Created after recording oral history interviews with longtime LGBTQ survivors of the early AIDS epidemic, THE MISSING GENERATION serves as a love letter to all survivors from that time. Featuring a multi-generational ensemble of performers, THE MISSING GENERATION is an extremely physical evening-length work rooted in story, and danced with precision and fearless abandon.

MADBOOTS DANCE is a queer, all-male, contemporary dance company based in New York City. The hyper-physical, provocative group led by Jonathan Campbell and Austin Diaz, was named "25 to Watch" by Dance Magazine and has reached audiences nationally and internationally, mining topics of queerness and male identity. In six years, the duo has received various awards and honors and has been commissioned by companies and universities across the country. Sean Dorsey (Artistic Director / Dancer) is a transgender and queer choreographer, dancer, writer, and longtime trans-activist. Recognized as the nation's first acclaimed transgender modern dance choreographer, Dorsey has been awarded four Isadora Duncan Dance Awards, named one of the nation's "Top 25 to Watch" by Dance Magazine, toured his work to 29 cities, and taught in 35 cities. Dorsey has been awarded support by the National Endowment for the Arts, National Dance Project, New England Foundation for the Arts, National Performance Network, Creative Work Fund, Kenneth Rainin Foundation, Phyllis C. The Joyce Theater Foundation ("The Joyce," Executive Director, Linda Shelton), a non-profit organization, has proudly served the dance community for over three decades. Under the direction of founders Cora Cahan and Eliot Feld, Ballet Tech Foundation acquired and The Joyce renovated the Elgin Theater in Chelsea. Opening as The Joyce Theater in 1982, it was named in honor of Joyce Mertz, beloved daughter of LuEsther T. Mertz. It was LuEsther's clear, undaunted vision and abundant generosity that made it imaginable and ultimately possible to build the theater. Ownership was secured by The Joyce in 2015. The theater is one of the only theaters built by dancers for dance and has provided an intimate and elegant home for over 400 U.S.-based and international companies. The Joyce has also presented dance at Lincoln Center since 2012, and launched Joyce Unleashed in 2014 to feature emerging and experimental artists. To further support the creation of new work, The Joyce maintains longstanding commissioning and residency programs. Local students and teachers (K-12th grade) benefit from its school program, and family and adult audiences get closer to dance with access to artists. Sean Dorsey Dance: Wednesday, June 20 at 7:30pm; Friday, June 22 at 8:00pm; and Saturday, June 23 at 2:00pm. There will be post-performance Curtain Chats with members of MADBOOTS DANCE on Thursday, June 21 and members of Sean Dorsey Dance on Friday, June 22.
